Silvia Rosenthal Tolisano has an interesting and highly visual post on collecting vs. curating with Twitter, and on the curation potential Twitter has in store for those involved in education.
She quotes Mike Fisher writing: "Collecting is what kids do when asked to find resources for a particular topic. Usually, it represents the first 3 or 4 hits on a Google search, without meaning, discernment, or connections. Curating is different. It’s the Critical Thinker’s collection, and involves several nuances (see Figure 1) that separate it as an independent and classroom-worthy task."
Useful. Resourceful. 7/10

Robin Good: Urlist is a web-based collaborative tool to create, publish and share navigable lists of links.
Links can be easily typed or collected with the complementary bookmarklet tool, and provided with a custom description. URList automatically collects the thumbnail for each one, and the list author decides whether individual items in the list can be commented and rated by viewers.
Items in a list can be easily sorted, moved around and edited at any point and each list can be set to be "public", "private" or "hidden" from public view. Lists can be set to be collaborative so that other users can contribute to them.
Every URlist can be also browsed as a sequence of viewable website links kept in context by a top-of-the-page navigation bar, which allows to move at any moment to any link in the list or to follow the list as it has been organized by the author.

Here’s some more evidence that curation is crucial for researchers, whether you choose to be a curator or you choose to follow curators.

Robin Good: "Content curation will play a major role both in the way we teach and in the way we educate ourselves on any topic. When and where it will be adopted, it will deeply affect many key aspects of the educational ecosystem."

"Keep the rabbit hole of the internet open by honoring discovery."
Shona Whyte: I've been curating for almost a year and only just discovered the Curator's Code. I may have to plead the Barbarossa defence: "the code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules" (Pirates of the Caribbean).
This site is beautifully put together, highly persuasive, and full of good sense. There's a bookmarklet for your toolbar to help you attribute creation and/or discovery. Delete the scoop?

Two professors of communication tackle the interface between curating and teaching. Of course this is easier if you're teaching communication, since the medium is the message.
For my concerns - teaching foreign languages and training FL teachers - it's clear that there are links between what I curate and what and how I teach: I put things on this Scoop.it for later use in class, and share my students' findings on here too. And setting the students loose in social media helps them understand the field and become more independent professionals.
But I still fear that in the headlong rush forward to find, scoop, post and tweet, the reflective part of the educationational enterprise may get trampled underfoot. Via Paulo Simões, Gust MEES, Ana Rodera, Shona Whyte Delete the scoop?
