CLIL MOOC: How to create lessons using Clilstore

CLIL MOOC: How to create lessons using Clilstore | TELT | Scoop.it

The course will enable participants to become acquainted with Clilstore, the major outcome of the EU-funded Tools for CLIL Teachers project, which includes Multidict -a multilingual dictionary interface- and Wordlink -the underlying tool that automatically links every word on a webpage to a myriad of free online dictionaries. Participants will learn to develop language teaching webpages with video and text where all of the words are linked to online dictionaries. These webpages immediately become ready-to-use online resources for language learners.

The course is divided into 7 units covering an introduction to CLIL (Content and Language Inetgrated Learning); detailed guidelines to using Clilstore, Multidict and Wordlink; a selection of case studies covering most educational sectors and foreign language levels; guidelines to planning CLIL lessons, and advice on useful CLIL resources.

New perspectives on teaching and working with languages in the digital era

New perspectives on teaching and working with languages in the digital era | TELT | Scoop.it

Antonio Pareja-Lora, Cristina Calle-Martínez, Pilar Rodríguez-Arancón.

What are the real benefits of applying new technologies to teaching and/or learning? Are they actually also applicable to language teaching and learning? Are CALL, MALL, CLIL, LMOOCs, etc. , as effective as traditional models of language teaching and/or learning? Do they really help language learners? Will language teachers and researchers (or learners) who fail to adapt and apply ICTs to language teaching and/or research (or use ICTs for language learning) be neglected and left aside? The present volume tries to shed a light on these issues. For this reason, it has been divided into three different but fairly interrelated sections . The first aims at describing how information and language technologies are generally applied to language teaching and learning. Its different sections provide detailed information, for instance, about how ICTs are being used in the different levels of face-to-face language learning or in distance language learning and/or e-learning. The second section introduces some new trends in the application of ICTs to language learning, such as MALL or CLIL. Finally, the third section presents how language technologies , i.e. computational linguistics and language resources, are being applied to language teaching and learning.

Academic speaking: persuasive techniques from Patrick Andrews

Teaching on a course for teachers from universities in China, I found quite a lot of interest in teaching persuasion.  Here are some materials that I have developed on the area, making use of a TED talk.

There are also elements of developing critical analysis in that the learners are encouraged to think of the extent to which some of the claims are justified and the extent to which the speaker is trying to manipulate the listener.

He's also running a MOOC, but it's nearly over, I guess.

Researching tasks in telecollaborative teacher education – the potential of exploratory practice and activity theory

Research on the design and implementation of tasks in telecollaborative settings has been very productive, but we still lack insights into the processes on the micro level when task content is negotiated in international groups. Due to the many contextual factors that impact on the task-in-process and the fact that students have to manage a high workload in these learning environments, researcher-teachers in teacher education contexts face many challenges. An exploratory practice approach, part of a mixed method design, will not only allow to engage students in reflective learning, but it will also produce data from an emic perspective which are central to understanding issues of task-based competence development.
