Swedish School Redesigned for Digital Pupils

Swedish School Redesigned for Digital Pupils | Telecom and Tech | Scoop.it

The design of the school was based on what actually happens when we learn, a difference from traditionally built school buildings. It stimulated the children’s curiosity and creativity; it offered reflection and cooperation in the school, in mobile teams and on the web. The students were equipped with the latest digital technology in a rapidly changing world.

An interesting approach to early education, with a focus on creativity and innovation. Too early to tell, but initial results (in maths) seem to indicate positive results -- that is, above the Swedish national average. The title is a bit misleading, as pupils are not "digital"; however, the actual learning activities are supported by technology.

TWC launches ‘Ultimate’ 100Mbps download speeds in NYC | TeleGeography.com

Time Warner Cable (TWC) has confirmed that it is doubling its top-level download speeds in New York City, from 50Mbps to 100Mbps. As such, a free upgrade is currently underway for all ‘Ultimate 50’ subscribers.

The cable giant’s Ultimate 100 service debuted in Kansas City in December 2012 and was recently extended to residential and business customers in Los Angeles and Hawaii.

Going forward, TWC is expected to upgrade its downlink transmission speeds in NYC and Los Angeles to 300Mbps in due course.

The Importance Of Mobile Learning In (And Out Of) The Classroom | Telecom and Tech | Scoop.it

Iridium Go! hotspot can turn your smartphone into a satellite phone

Iridium Go! hotspot can turn your smartphone into a satellite phone | Telecom and Tech | Scoop.it

Smartphones are practically everywhere. But if you're in the middle of nowhere without a signal, that iPhone 5s or Galaxy S4 won't do you much good. Many people already turn to satellite phones when they're at sea or in other far-off places, but a new device from Iridium takes a satellite signal and turns it into a Wi-Fi hotspot for your existing mobile devices.

No matter where we are on the planet, Iridium GO!

I need one! What about you?

Allan Tsuda's curator insight, February 17, 2014 2:10 AM

Not out yet. Scheduled for Q2 2014 release. Might be something a school like ours to have in case of another big earthquake or disaster. Can't find any MSRP or monthly charge fees, etc. Definitely a gadget for all techies and outdoor adventurers. I want one.
