Afin d'aider, les bébés qui n'ont pas la chance de pouvoir se déplacer normalement à 4 pattes des chercheuses du Ithaca College à New York ont mis au point le WeeBot.

Le WeeBot est en réalité un robot Adept MobileRobots Pioneer P3-DX sur lequel elles ont placé l'électronique d'une Wii Balance Board, ce qui permet à un bébé de le diriger simplement en se penchant de tous les côtés. C'est vraiment génial, car pour se développer, les enfants ont besoin de découvrir les choses, de s'en approcher, de les toucher, et de faire ses propres expériences. Malheureusement, dans certains cas de maladies sérieuses comme la trisomie 21, le spina-bifida, ou d'infirmités motrices cérébrales, il leur est impossible ou difficile de se déplacer, donc de développer au maximum leurs capacités cognitives.

Sous sa peau humaine, Terminator de James Cameron était un cyborg entièrement blindé construit à partir d’un châssis de combat dans un super alliage, mais à en juger par les récents développements, il semble que Philip K. Dick et ses réplicants difficiles à reconnaître avait en fait raison. Au sein d’une collaboration entre Harvard, le MIT et l’l’Hôpital pour enfants de Boston, les chercheurs ont trouvé le moyen de développer des échantillons en trois dimensions de tissus artificiels qui sont très intimement intégrés avec des composants électronique à l’échelle nanométrique, au point tel qu’il est difficile de dire où finit l’un et où commence l’autre.
