"Have you read The Paperless Classroom with Google Docs by Eric Curts? http://bit.ly/104vztx ; If not, you should. It is a great way for Google schools to harness the power of Google for sharing documents, and establishing a workflow for students to turn in work for teachers to grade and return in a paperless environment. I love it. In fact, I liked it so much that I decided to pay homage to it with a version that is dedicated to doing the very same thing on the iPad using just the Google Drive app.
Regular readers will have seen my last post, How to Use Comments on the Google Drive iPad app http://bit.ly/14koJzE . For me, this was a key change to the Google Drive iPad app, and one that had huge implications for the iPad classroom. It inspired me to think about just how much you can do in Google with an iPad and the Drive app, and I soon discovered that you can do a lot more than you might think.
So, with the blessing of Eric Curts himself, I sat down and went through all the steps he meticulously outlined for the desktop version of Google Drive, and converted as many as I could to the equivalent actions in the Google Drive iPad app. Then I added some additional steps for other things like taking documents offline, or grading PDFs, images and movies."
Wow...do you have lots of reading to do but not much time? With Spreeder, you simply highlight the text you'd like to 'speed read' and it will flash the words on the screen for you, prompting you to read much faster than if you have to stop to wait for your internal dialogue to catch up.
An interactive SMART PLAN maker, with a bit of internal psychology thrown in! Could be very handy for the students sitting outside Brenda's office (!!!)or for those who may otherwise from benefit from a bit of introspection to help reach their goal
QR Codes are codes than can be read by smartphones and contain links to text, URL's etc. As most kids have a smart phone, you could generate the content you have on a keynote slide into a QR code and then the students cold photograph the code to download the key information. There's lots of other uses as well. QR reading apps are free to download, and this website is also free.
Tagxedo turns words - famous speeches, news articles, slogans and themes, even your love letters - into a visually stunning word cloud... for my money - better than Wordle. You'll need Microsoft silverlight to use it, if it isn't already on your machine come down and see us in the tech centre
Wow! Fee textbooks!!! This site allows you to choose chapters (mostly Maths and the Sciences at this stage). A free account allows you to create your own textbook and share with students via PDF, via website or even hard copy.
CK-12 Foundation is a non-profit organization with a mission to reduce the cost of textbook materials for the K-12 market both in the U.S. and worldwide.
This is hilarious! Hit songs such as My Sharona, Norwegian Wood, I Can't Get You Out of My Head, Blister int the Sun etc etc, all with lyrics about famous historical events or characters sung by history teachers. Painfully funny/good!!
Maybe we should get our own HSIE faculty at Leo's to have a crack!!!!
See the web without words. Only pictures. A handy tool for use in digital literacy lessons to prove the power of non-text forms of communication, or even in senior photograpy classes to show the power and use of images to to suit a message
A fantastic resource for helping students to plan writing essays. A quick, simple guide to writing a persuasive argument. It would be great for stage 4, stage 5 and even some seniors who need help in visualising how to set out their argument.
