Virtual Debate: 7 Advantages of Online Discussions

Virtual Debate: 7 Advantages of Online Discussions | Technology To Teach | Scoop.it

How to facilitate such discussions is confusing to many teachers, and online discussion threads and chatrooms may be seen as a poor substitute for the “real” thing, an evil necessity of the online class. However, although there are some barriers such as its more decontextualized nature, in comparison to face-to-face discussion, there are advantages that are unique to the online discussion that can be built on by the instructor while the drawbacks are minimized.

iPads in Primary Education: Changing the Pedagogy: Independent Learning in Science

iPads in Primary Education: Changing the Pedagogy: Independent Learning in Science | Technology To Teach | Scoop.it

"Pupils in year 6 have been using iPods since September on a 1:1 basis with a focus on using the technology to support learning, develop productivity, independence and impact on pupil progress across the curriculum. The devices haven’t been used for everything, but are available as a tool to enhance the learning for any given task. Alongside this there have also been frequent daily occasions when the best tool for the job has been: pencil and paper, scissors and glue, laptop and printer, a good book and silence. The role of the device was made clear to pupils, parents and staff at the beginning of the year and the planned outcome has always been to use the technology, if it was the best tool for the job to enhance learning."

Stanford study finds walking improves creativity

Stanford study finds walking improves creativity | Technology To Teach | Scoop.it

Stanford researchers found that walking boosts creative inspiration. They examined creativity levels of people while they walked versus while they sat. A person's creative output increased by an average of 60 percent when walking.
Many people claim they do their best thinking while walking. A new study finds that walking indeed boosts creative inspiration.
Steve Jobs, the late co-founder of Apple, was known for his walking meetings. Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg has also been seen holding meetings on foot. And perhaps you've paced back and forth on occasion to drum up ideas.
A new study by Stanford researchers provides an explanation for this.

8 Creative Uses of Google Drawings You Shouldn’t Ignore

8 Creative Uses of Google Drawings You Shouldn’t Ignore | Technology To Teach | Scoop.it

"Did you ever click the bright red "New" button inside your Google Drive?

"Google Drawings isn't at the forefront of tools. The limelight is reserved for Docs, Sheets, and Slides. But let's do a reawakening of sorts and click on More to go to the "neglected" siblings. We have seen the usefulness of Google Forms. It's time to appreciate the versatility of Google Drawings.

"Google Drawings is the freshest among all Google Drive tools. It is not a full-blownimage editor like MS Paint. But the graphic editor is more powerful for one simple fact – it is a real-time collaborative application."

Review: Secret Science Alliance | The Beguiling Books & Art | Technology To Teach | Scoop.it

Try telling someone the best thing you read all year was a children’s comic book called The Secret Science Alliance and The Copycat Crook and watch how quickly you become telepathic.  In the twenty or so times I’ve mentioned this to people since 2009, I swear, I can actually hear, “who’s this ding-a-ling” pulsating out of their brain.  Four years later, I’m still that same dame-a-ling, but I’m also still that impressed with Eleanor Davis’ astonishing kid’s adventure comic that, apparently, everyone except the good people of the Illinois State Media Library (who gave it their Bluestem Award) dismissed simply because it was a kid’s comic.
