The trend certainly seems to be going Google's way with Google Chromebooks, Google Apps for Education, Google + etc...The products are very good and leading the way for both education and business. It will take a couple of more years to really know if Microsoft will recapture some of the ground they have lost but the trend with web-based computing certainly favours Google. Time will tell!

Microsoft Office 365 vs. Google Apps

Microsoft Office 365 vs. Google Apps | Technology News | Scoop.it
Web browser or Office suite? Microsoft's and Google's office productivity and collaboration clouds pit rich and complex against simple and lean.
Darlene Clapham K12's insight:

Good article on both products. Have a read and share your thoughts/opinions. Keep in mind Google Apps entire package is free for education. Microsoft has a limited offering for free and could be more costly if wanting to take advantage of all features discussed in this article. Office 365 is a great product, but like the article suggests, many people within an organization do not require or use all the features within the product. I like what Microsoft has to offer, I just worry about overall costs for large organizations. Google does the job for many and has many features for business and enterprise that were not really touched upon, but lacks the bells and whistles of Office. If informed decisions are to be made, than an organization really needs to understand costs associated to licensing/maintenance vs. user needs and requirements. The morrow of any story when selecting software is to make sure you are making an informed decision for your organization and employees. Would love to hear your opinions. Hmm, tough decisions for organizations. Isn't competition grand!
