So true. The challenge for organizations is that those immersed in the innovation/practice tend to get ahead with the new learnings than those on the outside. It takes egoless managers to accept that fact. Worse, it can awaken narcissistic tendencies in the same managers in an effort to defend the status quo.

Seth Forman's curator insight, March 23, 5:46 PM

Summary:  This article discusses what all has to go behind globalization via the internet.

Insight:  This article is very relevant to the concepts we learned in Unit 1.  It shows that globalization is not as easy as it may seem because of the separation of the worlds regions.

Olivier Tabary's curator insight, March 25, 4:28 PM

And no, not everything has turned virtual! We still rely on concrete stuff. Cables network says a lot about the way our World works.

Logan Haller's curator insight, May 25, 9:07 PM

This article deals with unit 1 because it has to do with maps. This map shows how underwater cables connect the internet throughout the world. The cables transmit 99% of international data instantly. On this map you can also see latency. Another map in this article shows 1912 trade routes and underwater cables today. The routes are similar and the interdependency has stayed but the methods and meanings for each of these things are different. To pass the ocean is risky by the investments, and trading. Sailors took tHess risks and now the tech companies are taking them. The cables are thin in the deep water equalling 3 inches across. In addition the cables are thicker in shallower water. The interesting thing is these cables can go as deep as Mount Everest is high.

Smart devices think you're 'too lazy' to opt out of privacy defaults

Smart devices think you're 'too lazy' to opt out of privacy defaults | Technology News | Scoop.it
The uproar over Samsung's "eavesdropping" SmartTV last week reveals a potentially invasive type of factory preset — one that consumer and privacy advocates worry gets too easily lost in the fine print.
Darlene Clapham K12's insight:

As the Internet of Things (IOT) becomes more and more prevalent in our lives, it is critical to uncover all the privacy settings in your mobile devices, applications, entertainment equipment and appliances. The first step to take when any device is connected to the internet is to explore the privacy and security settings. If you are not comfortable sharing the information with the Vendor, turn off the access.
