36 Core Teacher Apps For Inquiry Learning With iPads - TeachThought

36 Core Teacher Apps For Inquiry Learning With iPads - TeachThought | Technology in the Classroom | Scoop.it

"The interest in inquiry-based learning seems to ebb and flow based on–well, it’s not clear why it ever ebbs.

In short, it is a student-centered, Constructivist approach to learning that requires critical thinking, and benefits from technology, collaboration, resourcefulness, and other modern learning skills that never seem to fall out of favor themselves.

Regardless, St Oliver Plunkett Primary School has put together two very useful images that can help you populate your iPad–or classroom of iPads–with apps that support both inquiry-based learning (the second image below), and a more general approach to pedagogy based on Apple’s uber-popular tablet (the top image)."

Radical Reform: Dutch iPad Schools Seek to Transform Education - SPIEGEL ONLINE

Radical Reform: Dutch iPad Schools Seek to Transform Education - SPIEGEL ONLINE | Technology in the Classroom | Scoop.it
Plenty of schools use iPads. But what if the entire education experience were offered via tablet computer? That is what several new schools in the Netherlands plan to do. There will be no blackboards or schedules.
Kate Cicchelli's insight:

This is interesting to think about; as yet there isn't much research about the impact of the ipad on young learners.  These schools will be important to watch over time.

Children who’ve grown up with individualized learning on their electronic devices will not accept the traditional classroom

Kate Cicchelli's insight:

Thrilled to read this charge for educators in response to the Tablettistes generation:

"Teachers and administrators will face the greatest burden. They will need to adjust on the fly, adapting teaching methods and the classroom environment to be ready for these young Tablettistes. Critical to success will be a shift in attitudes, a willingness to move away from a traditional control model toward something far more collaborative and shared with students."

If you try to jump straight to modification or re-definition, you will most likely create significant frustration for both yourself and your students, and will be reluctant to continue with a transition that offers significant promise.

Teacher's Visual Library of 40+ iPad Apps ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Teacher's Visual Library of 40+ iPad Apps ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Technology in the Classroom | Scoop.it

"I love it when I come across such educators curated lists of apps because I know since these apps are reviewed by fellow teachers then there is a high possibility that they will work for other teachers in different settings too.

For instance, the wonderful work embedded below and which has been created by the folks in St.Plunkett Oliver Primary School http://www.stoliverplunkett.qld.edu.au/Pages/default.aspx ; is a great library of apps that every teacher should have the chance to explore. It contains a set of useful apps pertaining to different categories. Most, if not all of these apps, have been already reviewed here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning before but it is much more practical to see them  compiled and organized all in one page."
