Flickr: Elizabeth Albert The current structure of the school day is obsolete, most would agree.Created during the Industrial Age, the assembly line system we have in place now has little relevance to what we know kids actually need to thrive.
Most of us know this, and yet making room for the huge shift in the system that’s necessary has been difficult, if not impossible because of fear of the unknown, says educator Madeline Levine, author of Teach Your Children Well.
Karen Robertson, Author of children's books wrote a detailed list of tips on how to encourage kids to read. Check it out..
Whether your child is a reluctant reader, rarely even picking up a book, or easily gets lost between the pages overcome with a love of reading-there are many things you can do to help encourage children to read.
Learning to read for fun at an early age is the start of a lifelong adventure that can take children to worlds they might never imagine.
Motivating kids to read is not always a simple task, so here are some fun ways to help encourage your kids to find fun in reading and to actually someday even enjoy it.
1. Leave books scattered around your home and car. I know we like our homes tidy but you’d be amazed how often books get picked up and looked at when they are within reach! This is my all time favorite tip!
The creators of the Technology in Education app search website have launched AppyMall, a new site for finding education apps for K-12 age kids. The site categorizes apps by grade level and learning skill, dividing apps into five categories: preschool, elementary school, middle school, speech and language, and special needs. Currently, the site is running a raffle for an iPad 3 through September 15 on its Web site.

What is AppyMall? A Solution to the AppStore Blackhole Problem- We created the Appymall to address our growing community’s problems with finding specific educational apps on Apple’s AppStore. Many parents and educators seek to find specific apps related to educational and skill level that the AppStore doesn’t currently subcategorize in the education, game, and book sections. With Appymall, now parents and educators can find all the apps they are looking for in one new destination. To celebrate the launch of AppyMall, we are giving away an iPad 3 to one lucky winner.
