Using the 5 Cs for creating eLearning Visuals

This post looks at a simple approach to creating effective visuals for eLearning by considering the 5 Cs.

Beth Dichter's curator insight, July 15, 5:32 PM

How do you create effective visuals? This post provides 5 Cs to help guide you. Make sure the visual is:

* Clear

* Concise

* Connected

* Compelling

* Complete

Why is this important? People remember visuals, more so than words. As you create a visual make sure that it is easy to understand, that it shares critical information, that it engages the learners.

For each of the 5 C's consider the questions below (quoted from the post).

* Will a visual help make a point clearer?

* Will a visual summarize a point better than text?

* Will a visual help learners make connections?

* Will visuals make content more attractive?

* Will a visual help complete an idea?

Each of these questions are explored...and of course, each has a visual to help us understand the reason. Although the post is addressing eLearning, the same concepts apply in a face2face classroom.

The posting below looks at some particular techniques for enhancing the flipped classroom model for teaching and learning.  It is by Marilla Svinicki, University of Texas at Austin

Kiruthika Ragupathi's insight:

Like the way the article summarizes --- "The principles are old and valuable, but they haven't been usable because of constraints of time and effort on the parts of both students and teacher. It is the possibility of implementing these key principles that is new, and often enabled by technology's ability to capture their essence."

Education 3.0 and the Pedagogy (Andragogy, Heutagogy) of Mobile Learning

Education 3.0 and the Pedagogy (Andragogy, Heutagogy) of Mobile Learning | Technology in Pedagogy | Scoop.it

Many educators are doing Education 1.0; talking about doing Education 2.0; when they should be planning and implementing Education 3.0. This post compares the developments of the Internet-Web to those of education. The Internet has become an integral thread of the tapestries of most societies throughout the globe. The web influences people’s way of thinking, doing and being; and people influence the development and content of the web.

Flipping the classroom isn't the answer -- let's scramble it (essay) | Inside Higher Ed

Flipping the classroom isn't the answer -- let's scramble it (essay) | Inside Higher Ed | Technology in Pedagogy | Scoop.it

The “flipped classroom” is the idea of the moment, advocated by everyone from  Bill Gates to Eric Mazur, the pioneering science educator. This educational  innovation is exciting and promising – but I’d argue for a slight revision to  the discourse to make sure we don’t replace one rigid format with another. My  suggestion: let’s scramble, not flip, the classroom.

Kiruthika Ragupathi's insight:

Flipping, Blending OR Scrambling?? Whatever be the term, what is good for our students is the need to use both "direct instruction" and "facilitated practice" to intentionally help students meet our learning goals.
