Fostering a Culture of Inquiry | Edutopia

Fostering a Culture of Inquiry | Edutopia | Technology in EducationTeaching and Learning | Scoop.it

The Calgary Science School has had a consistent focus on problem-based and inquiry-based teaching and learning. Authentic, student-centered learning is embedded across all subject areas, and much of the learning is supported by innovative and powerful uses of technology and outdoor education.

Inquiry also infuses the school's approach to professional development. Instead of taking part in sit-and-get workshops, teachers conduct action research, participate in lesson studies, and have time with various instructional support staff to design inquiry-based projects with colleagues.

Facebook Correlated with Low Self Esteem

Facebook Correlated with Low Self Esteem - 01/23/2012...

The study, titled “‘They Are Happier and Having Better Lives than I Am’: The Impact of Using Facebook on Perceptions of Others’ Lives,” is based on a survey of roughly 425 college students asking them about their own lives and the lives of friends, acquaintances, and strangers. The students were also questioned about their use of Facebook, including frequency, time spent, and common activities.

The survey revealed that students who spend a lot of time on Facebook are relatively more likely to perceive other people as having better lives than themselves.

Screen-Sharing Comes To Google+ Hangouts

Screen-Sharing Comes To Google+ Hangouts | Technology in EducationTeaching and Learning | Scoop.it

If you were waiting for Google to release a screen-sharing feature inside the Hangout real-time collaboration platform, that time has come.

In the next 48 hours Google will be rolling out to all Google+ users the ability to screen-share during any hangout session.

From Christopher Johnson G+ post: "When we launched Hangouts with Extras last September, we wanted to test new features and get feedback from users.

We’ve learned a lot over the past few months, and today we’re rolling out a new Hangouts look and feel that incorporates some of the “extras,” and better reflects Google’s overall design ( http://goo.gl/gG1NA ).

Highlights include:

- Screensharing: share what’s on your computer screen with everyone in the hangout. This is the first of many extras we’re graduating to Hangouts proper.

- Bigger video: we’ve put more emphasis on the live video itself by optimizing white space and other screen elements."
