a good idea particularly for those who suffer exam anxiety.  Might be difficult and not always appropriate to completely replace exams though for example in medical and legal professions.

children are growing up immersed in technology.  It makes sense to use that technology to enhance their learning experience and to help them put their digital world in context.  Great point made about online forums encouraging quieter students to voice their opinions which they would never do in class.

Interesting article which seems to be lambasting the MOOC, but I am suspicious that the 2 models mentioned in this article are not free to participate in as the MOOCs are, therefore, not really in the same category.  MOOCS aren't perfect, but they are perfect for people who have an interest in a particular subject and would like to learn more about it without having pay or to work towards some sort of accreditation. MOOCs don't pretend to be competition for degree based courses, they are just "tasters".

Children or young learners adopting a heutagogic approach isn't new. Whereas in the past, motivated children would find information in books or by asking people, they now turn to the web and each other (online).  The information they need is now more readily available.  We need to help them develop the skills to differentiate between good/reliable information and rubbish as both sources can be found online.
