This is another reason I don't use smartphone payment apps.  These systems are security accidents waiting to happen.  Sorry, folks, nothing is secure these days.  I won't risk my personal information when I order a latte--no matter how good it tastes.  We should be more cautious before we adopt smartphone payment systems.  They are too vulnerable to hackers.  Save up your left over coins and pay in cash.  Aloha, Russ.

Russell R. Roberts, Jr.'s curator insight, May 14, 1:36 AM

Pretty good article on why bike commuting is growing in the United States.  Among the reasons:  Cities are wooing millenials; Improved bicycle infrastructure; More women are joining the  bike to work movement; Bike-friendly legislation; Bike Sharing; and The Green Movement.  Of course, all of these depend on decent weather to use a bike.  In Honolulu or in other tropical locales, weather is usually favorable year-round.  Whether you would enjoy biking around Christmas Time in Boston or Portland, Maine is another issue. If public transportation were available (i.e. buses, subways, trains, etc.), then biking to work could be put on the shelf until weather improves.  None the less, the savings in car maintenance, license taxes, and insurance should make people consider biking as a reasonable alternative to fossil-fueled cars.  Biking could also improve your health.  Aloha, Russ.

Russell R. Roberts, Jr.'s curator insight, May 21, 7:19 PM

Great idea!  As long as you have some sunlight, you don't have to worry about running out of power for your digital devices.  Here's another idea:  why not imbed solar panels in the roofs of cars and trucks and have them recharge the various digital devices in your vehicle? This would free your car's battery for the tough jobs of starting, running electric windows, and supplying juice for your car's onboard computers.  This device from Solartab is a very good beginning to keeping your digital devices fully charged at all times.  Aloha, Russ.
