Russell R. Roberts, Jr.'s curator insight, October 18, 11:33 PM

The idea is to use a special cellphone network to transmit data back to an air traffic management system specially designed for only drones.  The proliferation of drones over urban areas presents an air safety hazard to airports and crowded highways.  Scheduling and monitoring of expanding drone traffic must be implemented quickly to avoid an accident.  This is an accident waiting to happen.  Aloha, Russ.

Several large companies, including Chevron and McDonalds, are signing on to use the new Apple Pay system.  The new payment system works on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus for online and with "brick and mortar" store purchases.  Widespread Apple Pay could render credit/debit cards obsolete,  According to Apple, the new pay system features:  one touch checkout; no card number entry; no need to type address; and no card information will be shared with the merchant at point of sale.  Apple Pay could be a game changer in the business world.  Aloha, Russ.

The material that makes clothing able to create energy is something called Molybdenum Disulfide.  Imagine wearing a sports coat or business suit that charges your smart phone  or other digital device. Interesting concept if the clothing line can be manufactured at a decent price.  Aloha, Russ.

Richard Platt's curator insight, October 17, 12:19 AM

The two dimensional material, which is known as molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), is pretty finicky about generating electricity. If it is stacked in an even number of layers, it doesn’t do anything. But use an odd number and stretch it in the right direction, and the electricity will start flowing.

Your everyday devices, particularly smartphones, betray aspects of your privacy in many ways, not the least of which is transmitting location information that law enforcement, among others, has regularly used in the pursuit of suspects.

Russell R. Roberts, Jr.'s curator insight, October 19, 12:09 AM

The balance between privacy and security is a fine line.  While cell phone manufacturers are moving to sophisticated encryption programs to protect private data, law enforcement agencies are arguing for continued access to cell phone data to fight crime.  Florida seems to have struck a workable compromise by requiring a warrant to tap into a person's cell phone data--something akin to a wiretap, which requires a court warrant.  Privacy issues are a major issue these days.  Aloha, Russ.
