Annotate the Web with Popcorn Maker | screencast tutorial - The Digital Shift | Technology in Art And Education | Scoop.it

"Popcorn Maker, a tool for enhancing and remixing Web video from Mozilla, holds a lot of potential for educators, according to Linda W. Braun. The library consultant and educator, who created an earlier tutorial on make-your-own infographics, takes the free, browser-based application for a spin in the following screencast."

If you have wanted to learn how to use Popcorn Maker check out this video tutorial. Learn how to use the drag and drop, insert text, images, Google maps and more. Final projects may be shared (that does require that you create a log-in) and embedded in web pages. Braun's final comment is "“For school and public librarians, teachers, and parents who work with kids and teens, there are a lot of possibilities."

The End of Education As We Know It

The End of Education As We Know It | Technology in Art And Education | Scoop.it

Using online media, adventurous educators are engaging students and teachers in fresh ways.

Via Dr. Susan Bainbridge
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

This is really the way we need to look toward our education future. I mean really have we not done the teach them set information then test them design over and over again? Just switching that to new gadgets really isn't change in a big way that will really inspire learning. Online open access to knowledge o could really inspire everyone to go beyond their set text book limits. Teachers need to be trained and inspired to find ways to implement these many new tools in creative personalized ways.

Remind 101

Remind 101 | Technology in Art And Education | Scoop.it
A safe way for teachers to text message students and keep in touch with parents.

I've tried numerous methods including Facebook groups and Twitter hashtags as ways to digitally connect with my students through emerging social media platforms.  Every method seems to have a few privacy or accessibility issues and this is no expection.  However, this I think that the benefits outweigh the negatives and has much greater privacy control than most.  I haven't tried this out yet, but next semester I hope to use this free way to text message all my students (and/or parents) without the privacy issues of sharing cell phone numbers or getting them to sign up for a new social media platform.
