The Teacher Diaries: The Business of Education

My latest blog post - it's on teacher evaluations and the education-industrial complex. http://t.co/DrJ93hMo
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

This article is not really speaking  much of technology. This presents a teacher's feedback on the current trends in general. The points are worth reading and consideration. My problem with that the "Race to the Top" and the "No Childs Left Behind" push and efforts share the common traits of testing limited, artificial measurements that create winners and losers while pretending to help everyone learn and move forward. Both plans are based on very old style traditions of written testing for the most part. Test of this type are great for demonstrating short term memory and understanding. That's it... end of story. There are many times when students don't seem to get it very fully only to return as they mature sometimes years later and say.....Ahhh, now I get it. They were not great students and faught hard not to accept what you try to present to them. Once a candle is lit though it can lead to a greater flame later. That is the nature of learning as well as maturing over time and it has everything to do with education and is pretty much impossible to measure on a test at the end of studies.

These are a few listing from long list in the article of ways to use QR Codes in a classroom. Take a look and consider the possibilities.Teachers can create their  specific QR codes for students to scan. Albert Einstein told us that we could not solve our problems on the same level of thinking we were on when we created them. Moving to this new level means we have to see differently. Here is part of what this means.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

I think seeing our world in a different light will aid the younger generation to seek new ways to solve the local and global issues they face and it will demand a new learning structure involving a global sharing of ideas.

My View: Predictions for the next decades of education

My View: Predictions for the next decades of education | Technology in Art And Education | Scoop.it
By David Houle, Special to CNN

Editor’s note: David Houle is a futurist and author of the blog Evolution Shift.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

I think it is important to have the bridge group included in the move forward and realize a new role for the knowledge they have collected from a lifetime of living and learning. There are some things that happen in life that will always happen and other things that we rename as new that experienced minds will recognize as already tried and understand what was right or wrong in earlier attempts at the same approach. After all Mr. Houle doesn't look like a spring chicken and seems to feel he has something to offer with his insight.  I feel he needs to present many more of his generation as possessing many sharable, worthy wisdoms as well. Those bridge folks of the 20th century did after all hand those in the 21st century all these amazing gadets to change the way we access information and add connections to each other to include a global contacts in real time.
