I have found it helpful for domains to end in only a hand full of ways such  as com. net. or org. This involved guessing only from a handful of names rather then 10 of dozens. The new gTLDs sound harder to figrure out if your not sure what they are.

5 Ways To Support Teachers Skeptical Of Technol...

5 Ways To Support Teachers Skeptical Of Technol... | Technology in Art And Education | Scoop.it
As more schools move to a 1:1 or BYOD format, it becomes increasingly important to support teachers - all teachers - effectively make that transition and to support them in that process.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Bring your own device (BYOD) to school is moving into schools and it makes sense. Many people own devices that have to be left behind all day long and often have the devices containing far more up to date technology and software than a school can keep up with. Many already have the same or better technology and software than the school system is buying when funds come available for them to buy the same or even a worse device or software then many students and employees already have sitting at home or in their backpack....This is kind of a nutty waste of money it would seem.

Think about the idea of half of our classes owning their own copy of the class text book then telling them to leave the book at home because the school would rather buy the same book again for them to use the 50 minutes a day when they are in class and by the way don't use highlights and mark in the school copy of the books. Just think  of leaving the newest version behind at home because because the school is going to have you learn from the 5 or ten year old discontinued books. Thta is what most schools are doing when it comes to devices.

That is not a lean manufacturing business style in an area schools could then cut cost by not buying what kids already have. Schools might  even use that money to assist families or kids in buying and owning school/home devices of their choice that meet the needs of education. Public schools are using tax payer money and it wouldn't hurt to use school funds to benefit family education needs. The devices and software do become outdated and discardig them is a burden. Families could upgrade and maintain them or replace the technology as they can afford to or with assistance while students are still enrolled.

Kids or faculty that get caught sharing or using inappropriate stuff at school could be punished or fined in either case. People have always found a way to break the rules and the schools should not have to function as a police department more than a teaching department when it comes to the internet. We need to teach appropriate use of the internet and devices. Maybe device etiquette would be a great thing to include in courses. Etiquette training would certainly be appreciated in the work place as well as the skill of using technology.

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Students! Too many students are missing too much school. Here are some ways technology can help get students into school.

Do not forget high absenteeism can be and most likely is a sign of other problems. Problems at home, with studies, self confidence or with social or family, academic leadership or peer group relationship are ongoing, behind the scenes problems. These situations are most likely always the case with high absenteeism. There is a reason students risk failure and the underlying factors do matter even if students show up for class.

Excerpt:

As many as 7.5 million students miss nearly a month of school each year, according to the Ad Council, which noted that chronic absenteeism — defined as missing 10 percent, or 18 days, or more of school for any reason — is a critical warning sign that a student will fall behind and risk not graduating from high school.
