Six free edtech resources to transform your teaching - Innovate My School | Technology in Art And Education | Scoop.it
Sometimes it’s just great to recommend cool stuff for your peers. Here, Social Media and Educational Technology specialist Scott Hayden and teacher / e-learning coordinator Rachel Jones discuss their favourite free resources for the classroom.

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Excerpt:

Students who can use social media, web tools, video, and audio to research, collaborate, and explore in teamwork tasks, to problem-solve, communicate clearly, and critically think are only going to enhance their employability. It is an honour to be teaching at a time of educational technological revolution and it is our responsibility to work with our learners to find the tools that allow them to develop these skills.

Here are some tools that have worked for me and are fun, easy to use, and free.

18 Things Highly Creative People Do Differently, by Carolyn Gregoire

18 Things Highly Creative People Do Differently, by Carolyn Gregoire | Technology in Art And Education | Scoop.it
"Creativity works in mysterious and often paradoxical ways. Creative thinking is a stable, defining characteristic in some personalities, but it may also change based on situation and context. Inspiration and ideas often arise seemingly out of nowhere and then fail to show up when we most need them, and creative thinking requires complex cognition yet is completely distinct from the thinking process." While the creative type is difficult to pin down, there are things that creative people tend to do differently. They daydream, observe, and seek out new experiences. Creative people are resilient and have the courage to ask big questions. This article describes eighteen features of the highly creative, which are all inspiring ways that anyone can follow to be more self-expressive and authentic.

APPRENDRE | Misrepresentation, myths and misleading ideas

APPRENDRE | Misrepresentation, myths and misleading ideas | Technology in Art And Education | Scoop.it

The world of teaching and learning is rife with received wisdom, including the potency of learning styles (which deserves a page to itself), and plenty of other unproven but fashionable ideas. It is not so much that they are "wrong", but:

the evidence base and/or research methodology may be flaky, and/or

they may have been misinterpreted and generalised beyond their legitimate use, and/or they originate from such tightly controlled laboratory settings as not to make sense in the real world.

When Google is your librarian and Starbucks your WiFi, do we still need libraries? Book review of "BiblioTech" by John Palfrey
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

One tiny but major difference ……We as a public do not actually own and have little control over Google and Starbucks and they can buyout  sale out, shut down or go away at will and there is little the public can do about that. Many Libraries are borrowing the coffee shop and online models and that is a wise move for community and school libraries that are publicly held.
