Digital Literacy: An NMC Horizon Project Strategic Brief

Digital Literacy: An NMC Horizon Project Strategic Brief | Technology in Art And Education | Scoop.it
Digital Literacy: An NMC Horizon Project Strategic Brief was commissioned by Adobe Systems to explore an increasingly pressing challenge for United States higher education institutions: advancing digital literacy among students and faculty. Unfortunately, lack of agreement on what comprises digital literacy is impeding many colleges and universities from formulating adequate policies and programs. The aim of this publication is to establish a shared vision of digital literacy for higher education leaders by illuminating key definitions and models along with best practices and recommendations for implementing successful digital literacy initiatives. Findings from our digital literacy survey as well as from the NMC Horizon Project environmental scanning process will depict the benefits of digital tools and approaches, providing positive exemplars in higher education.

This is a great way to make reading aloud less stressful and more productive for students. They will have the time to read and understand the text before recording it (there are comprehension questions with each of the prepared texts) and they will have the opportunity to listen to themselves and improve their recording.

How to Convert Your iPhone’s Live Photos to Still Photos

How to Convert Your iPhone’s Live Photos to Still Photos | Technology in Art And Education | Scoop.it

"Apple’s new Live Photos feature on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus is really cool, but if you don’t want to share them as full Live Photos or just want them as stills, you can easily convert them in just a few steps.

Live Photos are being touted as one of those must-have features and we have explained how to get fairly good results with them. That said, Live Photos have a few caveats. For one, they take up a great deal more space than traditional stills. You may also not want to share the whole thing. You might simply want to share it as a still photo and discard the rest."

I’m not telling you that PowerPoint can do everything those other tools can do but I am saying it can probably do WAY more than you think it can.

Has Blended Learning Reached the Tipping Point?

Has Blended Learning Reached the Tipping Point? | Technology in Art And Education | Scoop.it

"Malcom Gladwell (2017) describes the tipping point as “that magic moment when an idea crosses a threshold, tips, and spreads like wildfire.” It is extremely challenging to predict when educational models are going to reach that so called tipping point. This is because educational systems are inherently complex with multiple factors that affect adoption."

I consider really important to take into account technology as part of our teaching methodologies. Nowadays, technology can not be let behind, since it has advanced considerably we can not isolate it from education. As a matter of fact, technology is a powerfull tool that can contribute positively if we plan how to use it correctly in order to benefit our learners.

Considerably it has advanced, reason why lots of teachers are afraid to use it.It is sometimes a big responsability and also, it is something that demands training and a lot of practice. However, we have to be conscious of this necessity to implement teaching sessions through technology, in order to guarantee to learners an updated and renewed educational system; besides, it would impact positively in our current  technological society and culture.

The Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) provides a framework for describing and targeting the use of technology to enhance learning. The TIM incorporates five interdependent characteristics of meaningful learning environments: active, collaborative, constructive, authentic, and goal-directed. These characteristics are associated with five levels of technology integration: entry, adoption, adaptation, infusion, and transformation. Together, the the five characteristics of meaningful learning environments and five levels of technology integration create a matrix of 25 cells, as illustrated below. Developed by the Florida Center for Instructional Technology (FCIT), the TIM is in its second version.

Well, yes. But this suggests that somehow "society" is a nameless, faceless thing. Every human being is a part of society so how we encourage creativity, how we choose to be who we are, how we support those who are not the same as us and who add beauty to our lives makes a difference in how "society" influence what others think and do.

"Geo-Squared" - Exploring Geometry within Geography - Microsoft in Education | Technology in Art And Education | Scoop.it
This is a lesson on linking math and geometry to art and teaching math content through art.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:
I just took the 1hour intro web module for 365office for educators. In exploring what I could find there for my PLC task on how to teach math content in Art I ran across this. I needed to see if 365 is useable even if the county system isn't on a contract for 365. This lesson was done by 4th graders but I'm sure my Art 1 high school students that have not had any public school art during junior high would find this a challenge. I would also find this a challenge and I think anyone at any age would find this activity challenging. This is a very fine multi-curriculum challenge.

In the past 250 years the world has experienced four industrial revolutions.

The first revolution (18th century) was the invention of the steam engine.

The second one was the shift to mass production with assembly lines.

The third was the integration of machines with computers.

The fourth is happening now as we connect these computers together into one network.

The term Industry 4.0 refers to the world created by the most recent revolution. Once we understand Industry 4.0 we will understand why a revolutionary new education model is necessary.

This new educational model is called Education 4.0.

Highly - highlight the vital parts and instantly share with others

Highlight the web to share the important parts.

John Dalziel's curator insight, August 10, 11:52 AM
Highly is a highlighter tool, ideal for those who are engaged in research and who find themselves reading hundreds of documents a day, many of which they need to share with peers, education practitioners and/or others..
The question is, when studying a long document, how do individuals bring their colleagues’ attention to the pertinent sections?
There's no doubt that giving page and paragraph locations for every sentence they need to read is both time-consuming and impractical.
This is where Highly plays an important role.
Using the Highly Chrome app - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/highly-highlighter/hjpahjhcglfdopbholajmhpamgblhjhg - users can highlight the vital parts of a text and instantly share them with other people.
Highly also lets users highlight...
  - images,
  - charts, and
  - other non-text objects.
For those doing research or collaborating on assignments this has to be worth a closer look!

Back in 2012, Caine Monroy of Caine's Arcade visited the Exploratorium at the Palace of Fine Arts. In July, 14-year-old Caine returned to our new home and built cardboard arcade games with us during our Infinite Versatility of Cardboard event. For the day, we invited visitors to build cardboard games alongside Caine. The arcade was adjacent to the Tinkering Studio, spilling out onto the museum floor in the center of the day's activity. We also hosted cardboard costume making and both small scale and large scale stop motion animation in the Tinkering Studio.
