Love this great post from the folks at Always Prepared entitled: ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teachers Who Use Technology‘ and the infographic it inspired from Mark Bates. Both highlight “The Habitudes” of educators who are effectively using technology to enhance and impact teaching and learning. Hat tip to Shawn McCusker for this awesome Twitter find!

Any business person knows that's it's often quite difficult to find good royalty-free images to use on a business website. Pixabay is a great resource. Just been through it briefly and I've already downloaded 2 or 3 images. Being a Digital Native Isn’t Enough

Being a Digital Native Isn’t Enough | Technology for Teaching and Learning | Scoop.it

It is our role as teachers to help students develop the skills to problem solve independently and collaboratively use 21st-century skills while not relying on technology to do all of the thinking for them. Just because these students are digital natives, does not mean that they do not need guidance to navigate the digital world–both in terms of learning how to discern important and relevant information from a large swath of data, and also to be able to inquire and solve problems that take time, thought, and energy.

Researchers dispel myths about cyberbullying

Researchers dispel myths about cyberbullying | Technology for Teaching and Learning | Scoop.it

Statistics from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services also show that bullying — while still a significant problem — has not become more prevalent over the past few years. Bullying among high school students (Grades 9-12) remained flat (20%) between 2009 and 2011 with a slight decrease among boys and a slight increase for girls. The report found that in 2009, girls were twice as likely (22% vs 11%) to be “electronically bullied” than boys.

Brainstorm in Progress: What Part of MOOC Don't You Understand?

Brainstorm in Progress: What Part of MOOC Don't You Understand? | Technology for Teaching and Learning | Scoop.it

Educators who have not taken a MOOC (Massively Open Online Course) and do not understand their history, are currently writing about these courses which is causing them to be inaccurately represented in the press. The main problem is there is all the publicity around Coursera and Edx that ignores other kinds of MOOCs.

Interesting point. Some MOOCs (us included) already solved some of the problems Couersera and Edx face such as proving college credit for the online college courses.
plerudulier's comment, November 27, 2012 11:40 AM
Proving college credit to enter online college courses as well as accreditation of attended online courses are and will be points to seriously address if MOOCs (whatever their kinds, xMOOCs or cMOOCs) want to 'challenge' traditional formats.

Are kids really motivated by technology?

Are kids really motivated by technology? | Technology for Teaching and Learning | Scoop.it

You can’t motivate students with technology because technology alone isn’t motivating. Worse yet, students are almost always ambivalent toward digital tools. While you may be completely jazzed by the interactive whiteboard in your classroom or the wiki that you just whipped up, your kids could probably care less.
