I use Reflector and find it works very well streaming to my Mac but can lag quite a bit on my windows laptop. Screencast records also don't capture sound so the audio needs to be added later or recorded in QuickTime or similar app.

iPurpose before iPad

iPurpose before iPad | Technology for school | Scoop.it

"The two above images are good examples of purposeful thinking about iPad usage in schools.

One, a screenshot of an oft-used tool known as 'iPad As.. by edtechteacher.org', focuses on what the iPad can be used for and provides links to various apps that can be utilised for those functions. It goes without saying that it is a very useful website for schools thinking about iPads. It provides nutshell explanations of a number of apps that relate to each iPad as… category as well as pricing. It’s a good introduction into the functionality of the iPad that counteracts the misconception of iPad as consumption NOT creation tool.

The other, The Padagogy Wheel, is one of many variations on applying Bloom’s Taxonomy of skills to iPad apps. It develops from the general learning action verbs/skills we want our students to acquire to technology based activities that relate to these skills and finally to a selection of apps that can support this development."

I simply could not help scooping the BaiBoard app (sentiment towards the name of the tool) but I also see it as a perfect tool for real-time presentation of collaborative work done by a group of students. The app offers you a zoomable multi-page whiteboard and lets you collaborate even on PDF documents. And it is free!

Looks interesting - just wonder if it will be useful for our sessions. I'll need to think of a suitable purpose before I suggest it as an app for our ipads.

I have to try it.

What Students Can Actually DO With An iPad

What Students Can Actually DO With An iPad | Technology for school | Scoop.it
Online, in workshops, and even with friends, I frequently get asked What can the iPad actually do? as a sort of challenge to the worth of the device. I would rather that they ask, What can you actually do with an iPad?

A look at using iPads with a focus on how an English teacher approaches the question. One example (of four) provided (and quoted):

I want my students to demonstrate their knowledge of the parts of the story.

Learning Objectives: In addition to learning the story elements, students learn...

 * To write a constructive review (plus three more objectives)

Followed by a project, in this case a book poster and suggestions on what apps might be used.

So perhaps the question is not what can a student do, but what can a student do with an iPad (that demonstrate their skills and expertise - think Bloom's taxonomy).
