Don't Miss These Two Fabulous Graphics on BYOD for Teachers ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Don't Miss These Two Fabulous Graphics on BYOD for Teachers ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Technology for Business English Teaching | Scoop.it

"Just a little reminder. BYOD in education refers to students bringing their own technology devices ( smartphones, tablets, and laptops. ) to school for educational uses. This was initially started by college students, but it soon spread to K-12 education. Schools that used to depend on government funds to provide technology that students would need for the school day , are now turning that responsibility to the parents by asking them to purchase the technology devices needed for schools, which, fortunately enough, most students actually own. This would cut down on schools' huge yearly technology expenditure.

Love this, "Interactivity (I) + Immersion (IM) = Sustained Engagement (E) resulting in meaningful learning". Agree. The more social, mobile and connect our world becomes the less appealing doing anything passive becomes.

We humans want to achieve and our digital world isn't as clear in our past ditch digging days. Digital ditches need digging too, but feedback loops are more strained and less clear.

I LOVE to gamify because to do so brings rewards systems to the front. We are all Pavlov's dogs. We salivate when the bell is rung. Our jobs as Internet marketers is to RING THE BELL. This slideshare has some useful tips for bell ringing.

The curation comment is interesting... I think it's fantastic that students are able to gain these skills without the assistance of a teacher, but ultimately if they veer off the path or have been misguided, they will always need a facilitator to not only show students the tools but also give them some best practice ideas.

Hey, Steve here, creator of Readlang. Very happy to see it shared here! It is already somewhat mobile friendly, in that the design adapts to smaller screens, and I use it on my iPad all the time. I hope eventually to develop iOS and Android applications too.
Patricia Daniels's curator insight, June 4, 2013 9:35 AM

Students, I've just tested this myself and it's a useful tool. Apparently it's also becoming more mobile compatible, which will be a postive development. There's an introduction video so watch it first and see if it's a tool that you'll put to use. I've added the extension to Chrome.

You can upload webpages for reading and if you're unsure of a word, click on it for the translation. This will appear in your word bank as a flashcard with some text ( this provides you with the context which is an intelligent feature). You can then run through your list of flashcards and learn the words. Remember to put them in context when you are doing your practice as this will help you retain them.

Try it for yourself.

Jim Lerman's curator insight, February 11, 2013 8:02 PM

I spent a lot of time checking this app out. It seems to be a really excellent way to create presentations on an iPad and deliver them using a variety of methods -- including screencasting directly from the iPad to any type of device (TV, computer, phone, or other iPads). The demos show uses in dealthcare, education, business, and PR/advertsing. The pricing model is a bit steep for schools, but maybe with enough pressure they will modify that. Looks like an app that offers a great deal of functionality. Do give it a try.
