Sweden’s Newest School System Has No Classrooms

Sweden’s Newest School System Has No Classrooms | Technology Enhance Learning UK | Scoop.it

There are collaboration zones, houses-within-houses, and a slew of other features that are designed to foster “curiosity and creativity.” That’s according to Vittra, which runs 30 schools in Sweden. Their most recent school, Telefonplan School (see photos below) in Stockholm, could very well be the school of the future.

A Free, Complete Guide to Evernote

A Free, Complete Guide to Evernote | Technology Enhance Learning UK | Scoop.it

Evernote is currently my favorite service for note-taking and bookmarking. I have Evernote installed on my iPad, my Android Tablets, my phone, my computers, and I have the Evernote web clipper installed in all of my browsers. Because of Evernote's versatility I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good note-taking and bookmarking tool. One question that I often hear from first-time Evernote users is, there's so many options, where do I start? Make Use Of has just released a new guide that will answer that question and many more.

Twitter as a Metacognitive Support Device by Alan Reid : Learning Solutions Magazine | Technology Enhance Learning UK | Scoop.it

Integrating social media into academia is not a novel idea. And since you are reading this, chances are you probably have been utilizing some feature of social media in the classroom for years. What is more interesting is asking why academia should exploit social media and, more specifically, Twitter.

YouTube: Easily create video intros and outros

YouTube: Easily create video intros and outros | Technology Enhance Learning UK | Scoop.it

If you use YouTube playlists, to organise and manage videos, you may wish to try out a new feature which will enable you to add intros and outros to  the videos in the playlist to " weave individual videos together into a bigger story"

You can create these either as recorded 'to camera' pieces using your built in webcam or as text intros, there are a number of different styles and background effects to choose from. There is also an option to add background music.

The tool can be found in your Playlist settings in the Video Manager, click: Edit Playlist to use.

If students are creating playlist this facility might help them to think crtically about the content and sequences in a playlist.

Next steps in risk-based quality assurance - HEFCE

Next steps in risk-based quality assurance - HEFCE | Technology Enhance Learning UK | Scoop.it

25 October 2012

HEFCE has published the outcomes of its consultation on the future direction of quality assurance in higher education (notes 1 and 2).

The outcomes have been agreed by the HEFCE Board and will come into operation from the academic year 2013-14. They form a strong and positive package which puts students at its heart, and achieves better regulation by focusing effort where it is most needed.

The revised approach, which builds on existing good practice, will protect and enhance the student experience through robust and rigorous reviews of the quality assurance of teaching and learning in universities and colleges, and the standards of their awards. Students will continue to play a key role, as central partners in the quality assurance and enhancement of their higher education experience.
