Drone deliveries will replace millions of jobs - IT Recruitment Blog

Drone deliveries will replace millions of jobs - IT Recruitment Blog | Technology | Scoop.it
It’s like something out of a futuristic movie. You order a pizza; it gets delivered by a small, unmanned, flying object; arriving on your doorstep with precision landing and placing your food carefully on your doorstep. Think that sounds crazy? It’s more likely to happen than you may think.
Venturi Ltd's insight:

The drone delivery service by Amazon will be known as ‘Prime Air’ and the retailers are hoping to roll it out from 2015. The fast food industry is also looking at drones to deliver food. Dominoes recently tested the Domicopter, a drone able to carry the weight of 2 large pizzas. In Russia, a fast-food chain has become the first pizzeria to deliver food by drone.

Say the words ‘gender gap’ and many may recoil in shock. Gender inequalities don’t exist in the 20th century surely? Or if they do, nowhere near as much as they used to right? I, for one thought that the inequalities between the male and female of the species had narrowed in recent years and that there was more women working in IT than ever before. I was wrong – apparently.

Digital analytics has changed from being a tool for understanding the past, to a tool for optimizing the present, to a tool for predicting future outcomes.

Three main ways in which the digital analytics industry has changed in the last 10 years:
1. Digital analytics has gained center stage
2. If data is generated, it gets collected and analyzed
3. Good visualisation is not an option

The teenage tech CEOs of today - IT Recruitment Blog

The teenage tech CEOs of today - IT Recruitment Blog | Technology | Scoop.it
There are an increasing number of teenagers who are developing, designing and coding their way to success, becoming tech CEOs in their own right. Teenagers born around the turn of the century have been surrounded by tech since birth. They can’t imagine life before the mobile phone, laptop and video games. Being absorbed in digital media from such an early age has resulted in them being incredibly tech savvy. Michael Sayman from Florida, now 17 started making money off mobile phone apps at the age of 13 (just 18 months after Apple opened the app store). They didn’t teach programming at his school, so he taught himself with online tutorials. Sayman had built a website using WordPress, promoting gaming tips for his favourite game, Disney’s Club Penguin; a virtual online world with mass players and avatars, set in a winter wonderland. Although his site was generating traffic, he wanted to increase it. He built a basic app linking to the site with hints and tips which cost just $1 to download. At first he thought his app was ‘stupid.’ However, it started generating money straightaway and ended up in the top ten downloads. Sayman ended up building another app, 4Snaps ...

How pubs are using business intelligence to boost performance and profits - IT Recruitment Blog

How pubs are using business intelligence to boost performance and profits - IT Recruitment Blog | Technology | Scoop.it
Just about every industry you can think of has adopted business intelligence platforms to enhance their service and to provide insights into the markets which they operate. One that probably doesn’t spring to mind when thinking of BI is the pub industry. Tattershall Castle Group uses BI to improve profits across its 155 pubs in the UK. Using a WX2 database system from Kognitio, data is presented in a traffic light system; red, green or amber. Red is negative, green is profitable and amber means that it needs attention. The data is combined from all electronic till points. Using this data with TCGs payroll allows managers to analyse using Cognos 8. Managers now decide whether or not they have the right mix of food, drinks and sundries based on intelligent insights rather than traditional guess work. According to Robert George TCG Finance Officer “We knew there were inefficiencies in our business, but had no way of identifying them because we had no visibility of key performance indicators.” Another chain that is using BI to enhance their performance is Peach Pubs. Owning a chain of 16 pubs, they were faced with the challenge of needing a ‘central repository for speed and ...

The Differences Between Generations X, Y and Z - IT Recruitment Blog

The Differences Between Generations X, Y and Z - IT Recruitment Blog | Technology | Scoop.it
The Differences Between Generations X, Y and Z “It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent but the one most responsive to change.” George Orwell Typical buzzwords used to describe the different generations of people are often referred to as X, Y and Z. Each letter is a reference to the era in which a person grows from a child and how somebody may describe themselves or others.  But what are the differences between Generations X, Y and Z? Generation X The term became popular after Douglas Coupland’s cult novel Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture was published in 1991. Whilst it loosely refers to anyone born after the post World War 2 baby boom, there has been much confusion about the precise dates. Some academics describe it as 1965-1984 and others refer to it as 1961-1981. Referred to as the ‘latchkey generation’, many children of this generation witnessed divorce and had a single-parent who worked, sometimes two or three jobs at a time. They were often left with helpful neighbours who were on hand to serve dinners and offer a place to chill out; usually other families with children. Single-parents and families ...

The UK Surveillance Society - is it intrusive or necessary? - IT Recruitment Blog | Technology | Scoop.it
To put in to perspective how many CCTV units there are: If there are 63.32 million people in the UK, then there are at least 4.5 million cameras. If there are 243,610 square kilometres of land in the UK, then this means that there are approximately 18 cameras per square kilometre. Bearing in mind that urban landscape covers only 10.6% of England; this would mean that there are approximately 184 cameras per square kilometre in built-up areas.
