'Ultra HD' takes center stage but skepticism remains | Technology | Scoop.it

Television giants at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas are touting the wonders of ultra high-definition screens despite doubts by analysts that people will buy them.

"Ultra HD is clearly the next big thing, but vendors are hoping it won't be like the last big thing—3-D TV—which went nowhere," said Avi Greengart, research director for consumer products at Current Analysis.

Graphene Batteries Could Offer 5-Second iPhone Charging

Graphene Batteries Could Offer 5-Second iPhone Charging | Technology | Scoop.it

Researchers at UCLA have discovered a way to make graphene batteries that charge fast, are inexpensively produced, non-toxic, and efficient.

The micro-supercapacitors created by Kaner and El-Kady are highly bendable and twistable and will be ideal for future flexible displays, e-paper, and wearable electronics.

Graphene batteries sound almost too good to be true. In addition to super fast charging, they don’t have any negative environmental impact. They are biodegradable and even compostable.

“We are now looking for industry partners to help us mass-produce our graphene micro-supercapacitors,” Kaner said.

Samsung Glorious 8K QUHD TV Will Show You the Meaning of Infinity

Samsung Glorious 8K QUHD TV Will Show You the Meaning of Infinity | Technology | Scoop.it

Samsung’s showing of a prototype of a 98-inch LED 8K television at CES.

I leaned in and tried to see the pixels on this fantasy screen and my brain lost in the detail.

My mind tried do the math of how many pixels were assembling the heads of the tiny people in the screen.

I got dizzy.

This is infinity.
