Drug Testing in sport | Technology and Media | Scoop.it
An introduction to the methods and precedures used in drug testing in sport
Jack Clarke's insight:

As sport has developed over the years, the standards of the participant’s performance levels have increase incredibly. But as a result of this, it has influenced some participants to take performance enhancing drugs so they can keep up with these high standards or even to win competitions. Taking performance enhancing drugs is a form of cheating because the participant is having an unfair advantage then the other participants. To make sure that no one is taking performance enhancing drugs to give them an advantage. They use technology to test every participant for drugs, they do this but checking the participant’s urine and blood.  But they always have to update their technology, so they can detect new drugs that wouldn’t show up with the old technology. This technology will help them stay one step head of participants taking drugs. So they will be able stop and punish participants if caught of cheating and keep sporting events fair for the other participants. This is because they are able see if any participant has taken any drugs

BBC SPORT | Cricket | Laws & Equipment | How does Hawk-Eye work? | Technology and Media | Scoop.it
Hawk-Eye uses six specially placed cameras around the ground to track the path of the ball.
Jack Clarke's insight:

Technology hasn’t just been brought in to develop players and athletes; there is technology that has been brought in to develop the sport. The prime example of this is Hawk-Eye in cricket. This is technology that uses six cameras that are placed in different positions around the ground to track the ball from when the ball is released to when it is dead; this technology is used to check for LBW (Leg Before Wickets). This technology has affected the sport of cricket because it has to be used at all major cricket events. This is because it makes the game fair, by playing by the rules of cricket because a LBW is out. So this technology has transformed cricket because it helps the officials to officiate the game. This is because they will be able to look at the situation again but with the use of technology to come to the correct decision, instead of making the decision instantly and getting the decision incorrect.

For example football boots technology is being used all the time to improve football boots. They try to improve the boots by making them lighter, comfortable, to improve players touch and shooting and the studs on the boots. This technology has affected the sport because football boots are always improving and are helping players to improve as well.
