With more and more schools investing in mobile technology such as iPads and laptops, the problem of how to use them and what exactly is a suitable app to use in the classroom arises. Teacher-produced audio or video podcasts are useful for encouraging autonomy and distance learning outside of the classroom, a commonly employed tool in recent years. The article also looks at MFLtwitterati, a UK-based community of foreign language teachers on Twitter, and many of the things they have to offer. Technology is not going away and language teachers need to embrace its full potential to engage our 21st century learners. Delete the scoop?

This article addresses criteria for choosing commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) games and their implementation in the classroom and other L2 learning environments. The proposal and discussion of a set of such criteria, which include the categories of motivation and flow, clearly defined and spaced goals, game skills and game mechanics, content, story and narrative, multimodality, agency, course integration and scaffolding, and financial, technical, and administrative considerations are the focus of this article. This is an interesting free app for creating short audio broadcasts, like a mobile audio Twitter feed. Nice way to get students listening and speaking.

As teachers, when we assign a research project, we often focus on the end product: the research essay, presentation, etc. However, students (especially young students) do not automatically know how to conduct meaningful research. Our modern students are used to Googling answers. They have grown accustomed to information being readily available. However, as academics, we know that research isn’t a fast process. It’s slow and deliberate. As a teacher, I need to intentionally slow my students down during this exercise. I do this by breaking down a larger project into more manageable chunks and focusing on the process. Via Nik Peachey

Some good suggestions here, but I still feel it desn't quite go far enough. I think we also need assignments that require and inspire personal reflection and a degree more critical thinking.

Yes, which is what is meant by "plagiarism proof" assignments. I would also add that it is essential to practice paraphrasing and do it effectively by using all four skills.
