Free Technology for Teachers: 5 Video Projects to Try With Your Students

I like video projects because when they're organized properly students have to write, research, produce, and revise just as they would if they were writing a story or research paper. The difference is that shared finished video projects have the potential to reach many more people than a well-written essay does.

How Mobile Learning Challenges Can Be Conquered

How Mobile Learning Challenges Can Be Conquered | Technology and language learning | Scoop.it
If the prediction by Gartner is anything to go by, a massive 70% of the mobile workforce will be using tablets by 2017. This statistic is enough for you to venture into the world of mobile learning if you haven’t yet. Mobile learning is learning through mobile devices such as Smartphones, iPads, and tablets. Delivering training to your mobile salesforce on their mobile devices to help them access information just-in-time is a boon. But every boon has a goon and in this case, there are not one, but three goons. Let’s see what they are and how you can combat these three goons to enjoy the boons!

How to use the Google Translate app in the classroom - Daily Genius

How to use the Google Translate app in the classroom - Daily Genius | Technology and language learning | Scoop.it
You might think that Google Translate would be a way of replacing language lessons, rather than supplementing them. Thankfully, you’d be wrong. And here’s some tips as to why.

Mike Reading, of the Using Technology Better YouTube channel talks first about how to use the app, with a few tips on how to get the best out of it.

Then, perhaps more usefully, he talks about the ways you can use it in the classroom – not to encourage laziness amongst students, but to get them to discuss accuracy – give them some text, let Google translate it and then have a discussion about is accurate or not, where’s the grammar wrong, and so to learn to understand that translation can be more art than science, and that technology can help them interact with information in a different kind of way.

Over the years, smartphones takes an important part in the people, and more in younger people. In the classroom is very common the use of them, students use them to chatting, to read, to listen to music, and to use the camera in order to make photos or videos, and the last one has been very popular. However, stadistics show that the use of camera changes during the years; for example, today is less used in contrast with 2010, but this is not the point, the real point in this article is the motivation to implement this kind of tool in the different classes. All students have a smartphone, and as a teacher we can implement the use of the camera to change the teaching and give them dynamic activities. Some activities involve make videos, or stories with pictures, portfolios, collages, tutorial, presentations or different documents. These activities are atractive to students in order to change the way to learn and the applied activities in the process.
