Microsoft officially announces Windows 10, public preview coming October 1st | Technology and Gadgets | Scoop.it
Microsoft has officially announced the next major version of Windows, which is set to be released in 2015 and be called Windows 10... Yeah, you read that right. At an event in San Fransicsco, Micros

Russell R. Roberts, Jr.'s curator insight, Today, 1:04 AM

Here it comes...Windows 10, set to be released by Microsoft in 2015. A preview of the program will be unveiled on 01 October 2014.  According to Terry Myerson, Microsoft Executive VP of Operating Systems, "Windows 10" will include the return of the beloved start menu, now with live tiles, as well as a windowed Modern UI app, multiple desktops, and other features.  Apparently, attempts to make Windows 8 popular haven't produced good results for PC users, so Microsoft is back peddling a bit and offering modern updates of its popular tools and applications.  The real question begs an answer...do we really need another version of Windows?  There was nothing wrong with Windows Xp or Windows 7.  Change for the sake of change is an oxymoron.  Our lives are getting too complicated.  Simplicity, security, and ease of use doesn't demand another Windows operating platform.  Of course, that's my opinion...your mileage may vary.  Aloha, Russ.

This is much inline with my readings on the zero marginal cost society. Being able to print your own car may not be practical of cost effective today but once it is and car 3D models are available free or low charge on the web, where will the car industry go? I understand why Tesla is building huge battery manufacturing plant as they may have seen that providing key components may be the future of the car industry?

Alexandre Armougom's curator insight, September 29, 9:16 AM

This is a good utility of 3D printer.

Russell R. Roberts, Jr.'s curator insight, September 30, 6:55 AM

Fascinating idea that could revolutionize how we buy, repair, and maintain our cars/trucks.  Imagine dialing up a Porsche sportscar and having it in your garage in a few hours?  Farfetched...but possible. I bet the major car makers are a bit concerned about this.  Aloha, Russ.

Hopefully, Windows 9 will correct some of the glitches found in Windows 8.  I don't think people are accustomed to touch screen technology.  When I worked in the radio business, I used touch screens for air shifts and newscasts.  The technology is pretty cool, once you get used to it.  As for Windows, I'd rather use Linux or a Chrome browser.  Aloha, Russ.

As the desktop world gets more wireless, the USB 3.1 might become the last cable to keep around the desk. Connecting your smart desk to your smart monitor, or something like that.

It is a power cable that can do 'extra stuff'.
