The streaming dongle from Google is a fascinating device with many uses.  According to Tiaan Jonker, here  are some of the little known uses for this versatile device:

 

Collect wall paper.

Stream local files.

Change streaming quality.

Sharecast your desktop.

Stream movies from Google Drive (this is a great app).

Mirror your android device.

 

I'm sure you'll find other applications for this relatively cheap digital device.

The USB Promoter Group has announced that the greatest invention in the known universe -- the reversible Type-C USB connector -- is finally ready for mass production. The USB Implementers Forum will now take the Type-C spec and start building devices, cables, and adapters that support the new reversible connector. We could begin seeing Type-C USB devices over the next few months, but it may take a little while for Type-C to reach critical mass.

No more getting the USB cable the wrong way 50% of the time or worse - if you need a flashlight to get to the back of the computer, like I do.

 

As the desktop world gets more wireless, the USB 3.1 might become the last cable to keep around the desk. Connecting your smart desk to your smart monitor, or something like that.

It is a power cable that can do 'extra stuff'.

This is much inline with my readings on the zero marginal cost society. Being able to print your own car may not be practical of cost effective today but once it is and car 3D models are available free or low charge on the web, where will the car industry go? I understand why Tesla is building huge battery manufacturing plant as they may have seen that providing key components may be the future of the car industry?
