IFTTT: San Francisco Startup Lets Anyone Control The Internet of Things | Cellular and Computer - Technology and Design | Scoop.it
To get to the office of one of San Francisco's most innovative startups, you need to walk away from the gleaming promise of the financial district and toward the boarded-up failures of upper Market Street. You'll be looking for a formerly abandoned building, and you'll likely walk past the entrance [...]

Modern SEO Cheat Sheet for PR Pros [Infographic] | Solo PR Pro

Modern SEO Cheat Sheet for PR Pros [Infographic] | Solo PR Pro | Cellular and Computer - Technology and Design | Scoop.it
Kitty A. Smith's insight:

I began learning SEO in August 2005 from Ed Dale in his 30 Day Challenge (Make a buck online starting fro zero with zero knowledge how to create a web page)  and re-ran the Challenge for 5 years.

The 30DC no longer exists, but SEO is quite a different animal from the Penguins and Pandas (Google's old code names for their new algorithms) and keeping up with what works is more important than ever because everything has shifted. This infographic is very helpful pointing out where we were and what adjustments you need to make to keep up with what's working now.

Solavei becomes first US carrier to ship BlackBerry Z10, charges $999 for the privilege

Solavei becomes first US carrier to ship BlackBerry Z10, charges $999 for the privilege | Cellular and Computer - Technology and Design | Scoop.it
We're pretty sure you've heard of the BlackBerry Z10 by now, but have you heard of Solavei? Let us jog your memory: Solavei is a virtual operator (MVNO)
Kitty A. Smith's insight:

I appreciate being able to read the latest information about tech news, but only if it is accurate.  GSM Nation is an approved retailer of GSM phones that will work with the Solavei network. GSM Nation also sells phones for other  carriers. Having bought several phones from the retailer, I have been pleased to purchase new 4G smartphones for LESS than local retailers are selling including the Samsung Note.

The consumer should do their own price comparison. The Best Buy ad on this page shows this same phone for $699.99 + tax and shipping. If you simply must have this phone, find your best deal through a little research. For hot phone like the Blackberry Z10, a national company like Best Buy will usually be able to out price a Mom & Pop like GSM Nation.

Sign up today for an AT&T account, the one time activation fee is $36 & a comparable two year contract is $140 per month + tax. At the end of two years, my service will have cost me a base price (no taxes or overages are included)  of $3396.00. On Solavei there is no activation fee and unlimited talk/text/data is $49 per month. In two years $1176.00 is the base total payments made. That is a savings of $2220.00.

If you must have a Z10, but can't afford it at the front end, then use GSM Nation's PayPal option to pay over 6 months with no service charge or use your credit card. Incidentaly, The Blackberry Z10 is not available at AT&T.

Acer to launch low-cost, quad-core smartphone in Taiwan | Latest | FOCUS TAIWAN - CNA ENGLISH NEWS

Taipei, May 12 (CNA) Taiwanese computer maker Acer Inc. plans to launch its first quad-core smartphone on May 14 to strengthen its product portfolio in the fast-growing market of low-cost handsets.
Kitty A. Smith's insight:

This is really good  news! Hopefully once the first phones have been out and given a trial run in Taiwan they will come over here to the States. This will give new Solavei enrollees an affordable starter phone.

I always show people in sticker shock over what a phone REALLY costs how they are paying much less in reality than the "cheap" hot ticket from a carrier with a $100(+) service plan and two year contract. There are also market solutions popping up all over as people shift to MVNOs and need an unlocked GSM phone.

Want to get onto Solavei for $49 mo (+ taxes) NO OVERAGES - ROAMING FEES - CONTRACTS? I will even show you how to Kill your Cell Phone Bill!

Annual ranking of best prepaid cell phone plans - plus one they missed! | Cellular and Computer - Technology and Design | Scoop.it
Cell phone industry experts from MyRatePlan.com, the leading cell phone plan comparison site on the web, has released its annual ranking of the best prepaid cell phone plans.
Kitty A. Smith's insight:
Kitty A. Smith's insight:

Pre-paid plans are gaining popularity for it's lack of contract and background check. Some people just don't like being tied down for two more years every time they need to make a change to their plan. The only advantage is that the cost of obtaining the latest and greatest cell phone released is slashed. Only to be paid for through the life of the contract, with interest.

Unfortunately for the consumer, this list is not complete. Solavei is one plan that really merits looking into. Not only does Solavei have the same features as other pre-paid plans, Solavei is about to receive T-Mobile's fastest 4G LTE network service through tower leasing. Solavei also offers a price cut that none of these services listed offer- the opportunity to receive this premium service for free by spreading the word about the plan.

Wet Cell Phone Rescue Tool That's Better Than Rice

Kitty A. Smith's insight:

Yes, a good dunking in fresh water followed by a 24 rice plunge means your cell phone is still alive! However with phones that have a permanently installed battery like the iPhone, the rices trick is a fail. This product, which was developed for the military, has been tested and proven. Twice with the same iPhone dunked for 20 seconds in fresh water. It may be a good idea to get a couple of these drying pouches to keep on hand. It has got to be cheaper than a new iPhone. *Note- this will not restore the moisture indicator inside the phone, so warranty will be void...... at least you will still have your phone.
