Thematic - Create your own scrolling visual stories!

Thematic - Create your own scrolling visual stories! | technologies | Scoop.it
Visit www.thematic.co to create your own free scrolling album to share with your friends.
John Dalziel's insight:

Thematic is designed for building and sharing visual stories, allowing users to display up to twenty pictures organized around a theme of their choosing.
After importing pictures users can add one line of text to each image in their story and rearrange the sequence in which their images appear on their screen.
The resulting story is displayed in a vertically scrolling format with each of the images occupying all of the available space within the browser.
Completed stories can be shared publicly or kept private.
Each public story can be shared via Twitter, Facebook, email, or embedding into a webpage.
I recommend importing high resolution images as smaller images will become pixelated when enlarged to Thematic's full size. After importing your pictures you can add text and rearrange the sequence in which your images appear on your screen.

Microsoft Office Online - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on the web

Microsoft Office Online - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on the web | technologies | Scoop.it
Collaborate for free with online versions of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote. Save documents, spreadsheets, and presentations online, in OneDrive. Share them with others and work together at the same time.
John Dalziel's insight:

Microsoft’s Office Online is a completely free, web-based version of Microsoft Office.

This online office suite is clearly competing with Google Drive, but it’s also a potential replacement for the desktop version of Office.
Unlike all of Microsoft’s other Office products, Office Online at office.com is completely free.
This is Office Online’s biggest advantage over desktop versions of Microsoft Office.

It  can be used on all the PCs you want without paying for additional boxed copies or subscribing to Office 365, Microsoft’s subscription service for Office.
Because it’s a web application that runs in your browser, Office Online will run on everything, from Linux PCs and Chromebooks to iPads and Android tablets.

It doesn't require any special plug-in and works in any popular browser, including Firefox, Chrome, and Safari — not just Internet Explorer.
Should you use Office Online?

Well, that’s up to you. If you’d like a completely free version of Office it’s a compelling option.

On the other hand, you may need the more advanced features in the desktop version of Office.
NOTE: it does provide access to learners who can't afford the desktop version of office.

Andy Kenworthy's curator insight, February 27, 2014 6:21 AM

This could be very handy for editing documents on the move when a desktop or laptop running the full suite isn't available and for collaborating with a team. I will be looking in to this further.

Use the Office Presentation Service to present your presentation to a remote audience.
John Dalziel's insight:

The audience, for some practitioners, may include people other than those in the current learning environment.
As eLearning professionals, we know that other viewers could be viewing a presentation on-line from another part of the world alongside the ones within the face-to-face environment.
Online presentation tools make this surprisingly easy.
Remote viewers need a connection – and a web browser only!
Click the File > Share > Present On-line. Check the box to enable remote viewers and then click Present On-line.
Select the link that appears and copy it.

Presentain helps speakers engage and grow their audiences. You use smartphone as a clicker and audience can connect to your presentation using their devices. They can ask you questions, participate in polls, send you follow-up requests, share your slides and more. While you present Presentain records your voice so when the presentation is over you can publish the slidecast (presentation slides with voice-over) and start growing your online audience.

The most exciting part of Presentain is its interactivity.

They can also submit questions which users will see as a notification on their smartphone.
Users, practitioners or learners can create polls and multiple choice questions, viewing the responses in real time.
They can use their smart phone as a clicker, record the live presentation and share it later, and their audience can use Presentain to request a follow up action, such as to request a copy of the slides.
Drawbacks? Users currently can’t show embedded video in the presentations, and they can’t include animations or transitions. Presentation is compatible with either Google Slides or other slides converted to PDFs.
