Rewordify - Understand what you read

Rewordify - Understand what you read | technologies | Scoop.it
Rewordify.com helps you read more, understand better, learn new words, and teach more effectively.
John Dalziel's insight:

Rewordify is an on-line tool that practitioners can use with their learners to help them read difficult passages.
Rewordify simplifies complex passages and render them reader-friendly.

Learners...
   - can paste in difficult sentences, paragraphs, or whole chapters and then click on "Rewordify text".
   - will then get a paraphrased version of their text with a simpler and easier vocabulary. The reworded words are highlighted which means that learners can click on them to hear and learn the origin harder words.
Rewordify also allows users to obtain a simplified version of any web page. Just paste in the URL of the webpage you want to read in the yellow box and hit 'Rewordify'.

Ask3

Ask3 | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:

Ask3 (from TechSmith, the makers of Jing and Camtasia) is...
- screencasting software,
- collaboration tool,
- differentiation platform and
- scaffolded support system all rolled into one FREE iOS app.
Learners and/or practitioners can draw on a virtual whiteboard, record their drawings, narration and even annotate over pictures.
Ask3 also...
- allows learners to automatically upload these screencasts so that they are instantly viewable from all iPads logged into the same "class".
- also gives learners the ability to comment on each other's video - from within the video timeline; they can pause the screencast and add their own comment(s), question(s) or suggestion(s). All of these comments are instantly viewable for the class and practitioner to see and reply to.
There's more.
If text isn't enough to answer a question. Peers and/or practitioners can...
- pause the video where they want to provide help,
- comment,
- ask a question or solve the problem.
Ask3 then allows them to screencast over that paused image and to create their own video response, taking over from where the original video left off.
The video response is then available for the class to view in the timeline as well.
I'm sure that's enough to enthuse potential users.

Mathway | Math Problem Solver

Mathway | Math Problem Solver | technologies | Scoop.it
Free math problem solver answers your algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and statistics homework questions with step-by-step explanations, just like a math tutor.
John Dalziel's insight:

Mathway provides learners with the tools they need to understand and solve their maths problems.
With hundreds of millions of problems already solved, Mathway is probably the #1 problem solving resource available for learners, employers, practitioners and other stakeholders.
Mathway's long-term goal is to provide step-by-step solutions to all maths problems, using the simplest interface possible, across the most commonly used platforms available.
To be fair, Mathway is an ambitious endeavor that will improve with time.
The Mathway website also has a handy worksheet creator for practitioners which can help them quickly set up assignments.
Users can take...
   - algebra,
   - geometry,
   - trigonometry,
   - calculus, and
   - statistics problems
...to the online problem solver and, get to understand the process via the step-by-step solutions.
NOTE: Mathway is also available as an iOS and Android app but with in-app purchases.

81DASH - a communication Platform for educators.

81DASH - a communication Platform for educators. | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:

81 Dash provides a place for practitioners to create chat rooms to use with learners to host conversations and share files.
Once registered practitioners can begin creating rooms where messages and files can be exchanged.
As the owner of a room practitioners can delete messages written by their learners; this resolves the complaint many practitioners have about many other backchannel tools.
What's the complaint?
Not having a way to delete messages or delete a room if learners write inappropriate things in the backchannel.
Learners join an 81 Dash room by going to the URL that is assigned to their room.
When they arrive in the room for the first time they will be asked to register.
There are two registration options; registering as a "guest user" does not require learners to enter email addresses.
A big plus for a backchannel is it allows "shy" learners to ask questions and share comments.
To be fair it also provides a good outlet for more outspoken learners who want to comment on everything.

What Type of Learner Are You? [Infographic]

What Type of Learner Are You? [Infographic] | technologies | Scoop.it

As practitioners will already know, the way that one learner studies may differ from the way that a classmate does, because of their different styles of learning.

The four types are...

- visual learners,
- auditory learners,
- read and write learners, and
- kinesthetics learners.

Each function is clearly illustrated and explained in this infographic produced by onlinecollege.org.

Learning suggestions, and which tests the learner types are likely to excel in better than others, are provided.

This is a helpful guide for...

- IAG Practitioners

- Learners

- Initial Teacher Training

- educators, especially those who are adamant that there is only one way to revise.

Quick Screen Share

Quick Screen Share | technologies | Scoop.it

From the creators of Screencast-O-Matic, who I have mentioned before,...
- No registration required and completely free.
- Nothing to install for sharer or sharee (assuming you have Java).
- Works on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
- Even lets you remotely control mouse and keyboard!

NOTE: The current version creates a direct peer-to-peer connection, so if you're on a super secure learning provider or company network it may, or may not, be able to connect, but in most cases users will find it works quite well so give it a shot!

It can save lots of time, travel, money and much more...

Hi
I wonder if this might be used for assessor/trainers to 'capture' competency in some NVQ activities in the way we suggest that Vodburner captures the whole thing but only when using Skype.
I will let you know. Very useful tool anyway
