Looking for some interesting free documentaries to use with your learners and/or use for your own professional and intellectual growth?
This list, from Open Culture, is an excellent starting point.
It features around 200 free documentaries spanning a wide range of topics from history to arts and science.
All of the documentaries are provided with a short description about their content together with a link to the page where you can watch them and read more about the contextual information surrounding the topic they cover.
It takes some time to sift through the entire list but I'm fairly sure practitioners will come out with some good documentaries to share with their learners.

- lets users browse documentaries categorically, search for them by name, or browse their image thumbnails on the homepage.

 

When users find a documentary they like, they simply click on it and be taken to its Chockadoc page. There they will find the documentary video along with an accompanying description.

 

Comments can be made on the documentary’s page and users can interact with others who have seen the documentary.

The website serves as an index of documentary films, and series, on the Edonkey Network, originating from many broadcasters including the BBC, PBS and more.

 

The website lists the documentaries sorted by subject, publisher, year of release, narrator, language etc.

 

Each documentary is accompanied by...
- a brief description of its content,
- posters and
- screenshots from the video.

 

DocuWiki is one of the most resourceful encyclopedias of documentaries on the Internet.
