Street Art with Google Art Project

Street Art with Google Art Project | technologies | Scoop.it
Explore the stories behind the art. g.co/streetart #streetartproject
John Dalziel's insight:

Google Street Art has 10,000 images, with coordinates pinpointing exact locations on all five continents.
A major aim of this project is virtual preservation. Given the temporal realities of Street Art, pilgrims may arrive to find a blank canvas where graffiti once flourished.
Documentation is key.
Not all of the work can be attributed, but users can click on an image to see what is known. Guided tours to neighborhoods rich with street art allow worldwide learners to experience the work, and the interviews with the artists dispel any number of stereotypes.
Cultural institutions like...
   - Hong Kong’s Art Research Institute, and
   - Turkey’s Pera Museum
...and street art projects based in such hubs as...
   - Bangkok,
   - Paris,
   - Rome, and
   - Sydney

...have pulled together official collections of photos and videos, but practitioners, and/or learners, can play curator too.
It’s easy to add images to a collection of their own choice which can be shared with the public at large or saved for private inspiration or used as part of an educational assignment - the list goes on.

Internet Archive Book Images

Internet Archive Book Images | technologies | Scoop.it
The Internet Archive, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. Like a paper library, we provide free access to...
John Dalziel's insight:

Internet Archive is a new collection at Flickr where practitioners, and learners, can search through an archive of 2.6 million public domain images, all extracted from books, magazines and newspapers published over a 500 year period.
This new Flickr archive accomplishes something quite important, it concentrates on images.
How do you search through the archive? (It’s not entirely obvious)
From the home page of the archive, users can do a keyword search. As they’re filling in the keyword, Flickr will produce a dropdown which includes the words “Internet Archive Book Images’ Photostream.”
Users must make sure they click on those words, or else their search results will include images from other parts of Flickr.
NOTE: All images can be downloaded for free. They’re all public domain.

Clipix: Clip and organize everything related to courses being taken/delivered/etc.

Clipix: Clip and organize everything related to courses being taken/delivered/etc. | technologies | Scoop.it
Clipix helps you organize your life by giving you one central place where you can keep everything you see online and want to come back to. It's always free.
John Dalziel's insight:

Clipix will remind users of Pinterest or eduClipper in that they can "clip" images, videos, and links to save on digital clipboards.
Clipix however, also supports uploading files from a computer to Clipix clipboards.
Plus each of the clipboards that users create in their Clipix account can be kept private or made public. There is also a privately shared option that can be used for collaborating on clipboard creation.
Although Clipix's basic functions are very similar to other services, the user interface on Clipix feels less cluttered to me than that of some of its competitors.
Clipix also offers Android and iOS apps that will synchronize with a user online Clipix account.
Clipix could be ideal for learners who are looking for a tool to help them organize their research/resources/etc., by course.
Learners could create a different clipboard for each course that they are taking.

Digital Image Collection-Folger Shakespeare Library

Digital Image Collection-Folger Shakespeare Library | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:

The rare materials held at the Folger are meant to be actively used; Henry Folger once called the collection “a fine kit of tools for scholars.”

Today, the Folger Library continues to make its books, manuscripts, and artworks as accessible as possible within the limits set by their rarity and, in many cases, fragility.
For the general public, world-wide, access to the Folger collection is provided via their freely-accessible Digital Image Collection.
The Folger's Digital Image Collection offers online access to over 75,000 images from the Folger Shakespeare Library collection, including...
   - books,
   - theater memorabilia,
   - manuscripts,
   - art,
...and more.
Images are available in high resolution and users can...
   - show multiple images side-by-side,
   - zoom in and out to see fine detail,
   - view cataloging information when available,
   - export thumbnails, and
   - construct permanent URLs linking back to their favorite items or searches.
These images are available for free use under a CC BY-SA Creative Commons license.
