The Sounds of Street View

The Sounds of Street View | technologies | Scoop.it
Sounds of Street View is a digital explorative 3D sound framework for street view environments. Developers can now easily craft virtual-reality sound experiences with ease using the framework.
John Dalziel's insight:

Sounds of Street View currently features three Street View locations with sounds matched to them.
Google Maps Street View provides learners with a great opportunity to view the places that they learn about in their various courses.
Amplifon has undertaken an attempt to give learners the chance to hear what it sounds like to visit a place.
Hopefully, the gallery of sounds will expand soon.
Practitioners and learners are encouraged to attempt to create their own Sounds of Street View.

Spell Up. Speak to play and build up your English.

Spell Up. Speak to play and build up your English. | technologies | Scoop.it
Spell Up. Speak to play and build up your English. www.chrome.com/spellup
John Dalziel's insight:

Spell Up is a new word game and Chrome Experiment that helps learners improve their English using their voice—and a modern browser, of course.
It’s like a virtual spelling bee, with a twist.
Spell Up is both fun and educational.
The goal of the game is for users to correctly spell the words they hear and stack them to build the highest word tower they can...
   - letter by letter,
   - word by word.
The higher the tower gets, the more difficult the word challenges:
They’ll be asked to...
   - pronounce words correctly,
   - solve word jumbles and
   - guess mystery words.

They can earn bonuses and coins to level up faster.

Spell Up works best in Chrome on a computer and on Android phones and tablets. (It also works on iPhones and iPads, but they’ll need to type rather than talk.)
Whether they’re just learning English or they’re already a pro, check it out!

And if you’re a practitioner, I'd encourage you to try it out in your learning environments.

calmCounter

calmCounter | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:

Calmness Counter can be used to show learners how loudly they are speaking.
The browser based application measures the volume of the noise in a learning environment and displays a dial meter to display the decibel level. Users can adjust the microphone input sensitivity directly on the Calmness Counter screen.
Note: to avoid feedback, it is esential to mute speakers.
Projecting the meters for all learners to see could be a good way to help them understand the appropriate volume for conversations while working on group activities in a learning environment.

The idea is to empower users to tell their stories, engage learners and make an impact.

PEDIAPHON EN

PEDIAPHON EN | technologies | Scoop.it
Readout Wikipedia with Pediaphon
John Dalziel's insight:

If your learners travel a lot, they may want to listen to Wikipedia articles. Pediaphon provides a way to do this.
Learners need to enter the specific article name, or they will simply get an MP3 file of a page of links to possible matches for their search term.
They should go to Wikipedia first, find their article, and then enter the exact article name in the edit box.
Next they should select the type of voice from the voice drop-down list and the speed at which they want the voice to speak from the speaking speed drop-down list.
Then they should select MP3 download/Podcast/old iPhone/Shoutcast from the last drop-down list (other formats are also available). Finally Clicking start.
To save the file to disk, they should right-click on the MP3 link and select Save Link As from the popup menu, and use the dialog box that displays to select a location for the file and to save it.
It's as easy as that.

Kaizena · Give Great Feedback · Voice Comments for Google Drive

Kaizena · Give Great Feedback · Voice Comments for Google Drive | technologies | Scoop.it
Kaizena is the best place to help students improve their work. Import from Google Drive, add voice comments and attach mini-lessons.
John Dalziel's insight:

Kaizena is a good tool for providing audio feedback to learners.
To use Kaizena practitioners will have to authorize it to access their Google Account.
Having done that, practitioners can then...
  - open any document,
  - highlight a selection of text, and
  - record their comments for learners to listen to.
Giving feedback to learners is, for many, faster with Kaizena than typing, and far faster than a red pen.
Every feature is designed to save practitioners time.
For learners, Voice Comments make the feedback personal.
Last, but equally important, practitioners can address common problems with reusable mini-lessons. By adding a link once, practitioners can quickly reuse it every time they encounter that problem again.
Practitioners get to stop repeating themself, and their learners get clear next steps to improve.
(Note: Kai·zen - is a Japanese philosophy of continuous improvement)

An homage to the Commodore 64's SID sounds running inside your WebKit browser
John Dalziel's insight:

For some practitioners, especially if they’re a child of the 80′s,WebSID will definitely bring back some memories.
The WebSID is a digital recreation of the iconic SID sound chip, as used in the Commodore 64.
It’s very simple and easy to use, with a straightforward interface, and can be played using a computer keyboard.
The on-screen keyboard also responds to touch if users are accessing it on a smartphone or tablet or iPad.
WebSID also comes with a built-in delay effect for more sound design possibilities.

John Dalziel's insight:

This site provides a simple on-screen theremin, the staple musical instrument of 1950s sci-fi movies, which lets users control the volume and pitch by clicking and dragging around the screen.
I've not tried it on an interactive whiteboard but I'm sure it will work just as well as it does with a mouse.
It would be good in science lessons to look at different pitches and volumes and I'm sure it will also be of interest to music teachers and those working in media courses and more.

Music Timeline

Music Timeline | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:

Google has released this interesting music timeline that documents the variations in the music industry during the last six decades.
The timeline is basically a coloured visualization that chronicles how different artists and musical genres have gained or dropped in popularity since 1950 to now.
Each musical genre is given a particular colour.
Click on any of the coloured regions and users will be provided with more details on that musical genre .
They will also be able to see the major artists falling under its genre.
By clicking on any artist users can read about his/her story or go to Google Play to listen to their hits.
I would think that this is a must access for anyone engaged with music.
