John Dalziel's insight:

I've tried out the Classtools 3D Gallery Generator which enables learners, or others, to create a virtual 3D gallery of images and videos.
Each gallery can have up to ten images and or videos.
Below each image or video users can insert captions to provide explanations of the significance of the visuals in their galleries.
My experiment with this tool can be seen at...

Tinkercad

Tinkercad | technologies | Scoop.it

Tinkercad will only function correctly in Google Chrome and the latest versions of Firefox. It will not function correctly in Safari or Internet Explorer.

Tinkercad allows users to build 3D models within their web browser.

I've given Tinkercad a try and found it easy to use mainly because of the clear how-to lessons that Tinkercad provides.

Tinkercads editing options are limited  but it provides pre-made pieces that users can assemble to build models.

Users can also select a model from the public gallery and edit it in their Tinkercad account.

Explain 3D: Interactive educational simulations

Explain 3D: Interactive educational simulations | technologies | Scoop.it
Explain in 3D environment, how things work. Learn with interactive simulations that supports creativity and learning process.
John Dalziel's insight:

Explain 3D is a free site that offers a small of collection of 3D animations of simple machines. While the animations are free to view, users do have to register in order to see them.
The animations use the Unity web player which enables viewers to zoom-in, zoom-out, and rotate animations 360 degrees; this has to be downloaded and added to the computer being used.
The simulations are built in 3D environment, where users can rotate and play with them. The main advantage is interactivity, which supports educational engagement.
These interactive simulations can help practitioners explain and/or learners understand, how things work.
Currently there are eight Explain 3D animations.

3-D Shapes

The Shapes Resource on the Birmingham Grid For Learning website is an Interactive site for reviewing both 2D and 3D shapes.

The site does a good job defining and introducing 2D shapes and, the 3D shape section, is one of the best resources for understanding 3D shapes.

Investigation of 3D shapes includes an interactive 3D model of each of the 3D shapes that learners can control by touching on the control buttons.

In addition, each 3D shape has an accompanying net that practitioners or learners can print out and construct individual 3D shapes.

This is a great resource to share with other functional skills / functional maths practitioners.
