theLearnia - Free virtual whiteboard that allows users to record video lessons

theLearnia - Free virtual whiteboard that allows users to record video lessons | technologies | Scoop.it
theLearnia helps teachers to flip their classroom by creating awesome video lessons within minutes and share with their students
John Dalziel's insight:
theLearnia is a virtual whiteboard that allows users to record video lessons using their voice while interacting with the whiteboard (write, draw, insert images).
theLearnia even allows users to import their PowerPoint presentations and convert them into video lessons.
theLearnia is free and, above all, very simple to use.
Initially, users can add a wide variety of content to the whiteboard including text, images, lines, shapes etc.
They can also arrange their content into multiple pages or simply import a PowerPoint presentation.
Once their slides are ready they can start their recording. Whatever they sketch or draw on the canvas will be recorded as an animation.
When done, users can watch a preview of their work and if it does not require any further editing they can proceed with sharing it with others via email or through social media websites.
Watch the video at https://www.youtube.com/embed/xZigy8aYvlI to learn more about how to create a video lesson using theLearnia.

Dropbox - Paper :- a collaborative on-line editor

Dropbox - Paper :- a collaborative on-line editor | technologies | Scoop.it
Dropbox is a free service that lets you bring your photos, docs, and videos anywhere and share them easily. Never email yourself a file again!
John Dalziel's insight:
Dropbox Paper is a collaborative on-line editor that is, at the time of posting, currently in open beta.
All users need is a Dropbox account, and they can give the new service a try.
Dropbox Paper has some excellent features that are worth a closer look.
Adding and curating images is exceptionally easy, especially if users already use Dropbox as an image host.
Similarly, users are able to embed YouTube, Vimeo, Spotify, SoundCloud, Facebook, Twitter, and Google Docs.
As with Dropbox, collaboration and sharing is key.
Sharing is as simple as clicking a little blue button, and selecting who users would like to share with.
Another feature I really like, Dropbox Paper users can “@” people, even if they’re not currently collaborating. That person will receive a notification that the user would like to share, and also see what they’ve shared with them.

John Dalziel's insight:
An add-in for Chrome that will raise a users awareness of the time they spend on particular web pages.
TimeStats is a handy extension that does just that, creating a colourful pie chart that could show users the amount of time they spend on time-wasting websites instead of studying/working/etc. Learners, and/or practitioners, might be surprised at how big a slice a seemingly harmless website can have.
By having a better overview of their web activity, users, if they really want to, can act on it.

CaptureCast Chrome Screen Recording

CaptureCast Chrome Screen Recording | technologies | Scoop.it
CaptureCast Chrome is a free screen recording and lecture capture extension designed for educators to empower video in the classroom
John Dalziel's insight:
For Learning Providers who use Chromebooks, the free Chrome app called CaptureCast will allow learners to Record a Webcam Video on their Chromebook.
CaptureCast, produced by Cattura Video, allows users to record the screen on their Chromebook as well as input from their webcam.
To record a video with the webcam on a Chromebook...
► open CaptureCast in the browser
► allow it to access your webcam and microphone
► specify the resolution to use when capturing the video and
► choose the audio quality.
Note: If users have an external microphone connected to their Chromebook, they must make sure they have it enabled before they start recording.
When they've finished recording in CaptureCast they can...
► save their video on their Chromebook or
► upload it to YouTube, or
► upload it to Vimeo, or
► upload it to Google Drive.
Rather than having learners write their blog posts, they can record short videos to talk about what they've learned in learning environments that week, or share their thoughts on a topic that practitioners have posted for discussion on their course blog. Including videos in blog posts is a good way to increase engagement on course blogs.

VideoAnt - add annotations to any publicly accessible YouTube video | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:
Today's tool was one I've posted at in the past but it's been updated, it's now HTML5 rather than Flash based, making it mobile and multi-platform friendly.
VideoANT is a University of Minnesota project that allows users to annotate any publicly accessible YouTube video with comments.
To do this users...
► copy the URL of a video and
► paste it into the VideoANT annotation tool.
Then as the video plays...
► click the "add annotation" button when ever they want to add an annotation.
If a user wants to collaborate with others, they can send them the VideoANT link.
They are the only person that has to have a VideoANT account. Their collaborators do not need to have a VideoANT account to participate in the annotation process with them.
IMPORTANT: Be careful with whom you share this URL. Don’t post it on a public forum or social media page if you want to keep others from seeing or making comments.
Very much a tool for learners to view and make comments on YouTube videos without registering.
► Practitioners can have learners view videos and add their thoughts.
► Learners can share videos with their peers on a project.
► Practitioners can make a bite-sized lesson out of clips by providing more information alongside the video, and
► the resulting videos with comments can even be embedded in websites or other web presences.
Well worth a closer look and/or revisit.

Looking for a simple way to create and publish short podcasts? If so then Anchor is worth a look.
NOTE: 1: users can't record for more than two minutes at a time on the Anchor apps. I like that as the time limit forces users to get to the point rather than filling time with music, and/or other filler conversation that doesn't add any value to the podcast.
2: a users podcast is open to voice responses from listeners. They reply by just hitting the "reply" button below any published recording then speaking into their phones.
