Recap - allows learners to prepare dialogue, express it, and get feedback on their speaking

Recap - allows learners to prepare dialogue, express it, and get feedback on their speaking  | technologies |
John Dalziel's insight:
Recap is an app that allows learners to record video answers to questions the practitioner asks.
In short, the practitioner asks a question, called a “Recap,” and the learners respond via video.
How Does It Work?
The practitioner begins by posing a question to the learners.
This can be done as a text question and/or as a video.
After writing or recording the question, the practitioner then has the option to determine...
► how long the students have to record their answers, and
► whether to send the question to the entire class or just to specific students.
A nice way to differentiate and personalise learning!
When a learner logs into or launches the...
...the question is there waiting.
The Recap will launch immediately after loading, but the learner is able to close the Recap in order to respond at a later time.
Recaps that learners have done stay on the learner screen, but the learner cannot edit or delete them.
Practitioner are able to delete a Recap, however.
When practitioners watch the Learner's Recap, they have the ability to leave a typed comment for the learners.
Learners are then able to comment back to the practitioner in text form.
If a comment has been made, a little icon with a number will appear in the top right corner of the video.
NOTE: 1: If learners have email accounts, it is recommended that when learners sign into the app that they use their own accounts.
2: Learners will still have a "class code" so they can join specific practitioner courses is a more secure way to use Recap, because if learners only sign in using a "class code", they will have access to everyone else’s work. They will be able to see their course-mates’ Recaps, respond to comments as a class-mate, and accidentally record as another learner.
Speaking and Listening are important skills and Recap allows learners to...
► prepare dialogue,
► express it, and
► get feedback
...on their speaking in a non-threatening way.
When practitioners use the commenting feature, they can provide constructive feedback for the speaker, and learners can practice again if the response needs some clarity or refining.

H5P -make your videos interactive

H5P -make your videos interactive | technologies |
H5P empowers everyone to create, share and reuse interactive content - all you need is a web browser and a web site that supports H5P.
John Dalziel's insight:
Videos play an important part in on-line learning, so it's no surprise that I'm excited by tools that can make them interactive. Interactive video clips can used in learning environments by learners, individually or in pairs, for self-study, and/or for on-line teaching/learning, and/or for blended courses.
The choice of which tools are best, depends on the individual educator and his/her own teaching context, i.e. what is most appropriate for what they are teaching and their learners' needs and interests.
For interactive videos H5P is worth a closer look.
With H5P users can include different kinds of viewing activities, such as adding...
► polls,
► quizzes with short answers and
► multiple choice well as embed the videos.
H5P also offers...
