Quizizz: Fun Multiplayer Classroom Quizzes to engage learners

Quizizz: Fun Multiplayer Classroom Quizzes to engage learners | technologies | Scoop.it
Empty description
John Dalziel's insight:
Quizziz is a fun assessment tool that continues to add more and more features; this makes obtaining feedback from students and providing feedback to them much easier.
Some of the newer features include receiving a daily report of the Quizizz summary and being able to send parents, and/or other stakeholders the results of a learner’s Quizizz 'game'.
The daily summary report shows the...
  - number of Quizizz games used,
  - number of responses,
  - percentage correct
...as well as additional information.
It’s nice for practitioners to be able to have that data available so quickly.
Quizizz easy to implement, users simply create their own by adding their own questions or search from the public Quizizz available and drag in the questions they want and then edit them according to their preferences.
Other benefits include the ability to either play it live or assign it as "practice" or homework.
NOTE: If practitioners create a Quizizz and there isn't enough time for learners to finish, no worries because when learners use the same login and pin number, they continue from where they left off in the game.

G Suite – Gmail, Drive, Docs and More

G Suite – Gmail, Drive, Docs and More | technologies | Scoop.it
Do your best work with Google’s suite of intelligent apps (formerly Google Apps). Get business email, video conferencing, online storage and file sharing.
John Dalziel's insight:
Many Learning Providers are embracing G Suite which provides all the tools they need to...
  - Communicate - GMail, Hangouts, Calendar, Google+;
  - Store - Google Drive;
  - Collaborate - Docs, sheets, Forms, Slides, and Sites; and
  - Manage - Admin and Vault;
...in one package that works seamlessly from computers, phones or tablets.
No it isn't free but at the time of posting this, it starts at about £4/user/month.
If you’re one of the Learning Providers that already use G Suite, and/or are contemplating using it, then keeping track of your data is critical.
Such organisations need tools that can help them manage access to ensure that only the right people are sharing information.
Team Drives - https://gsuite.google.com/learning-center/products/drive/get-started-team-drive/ - make it easy for employees to manage file access.
Team Drives allows users to specialise permissions based on who they would like to... edit, comment, reorganise or delete ...certain files.
Unlike files in My Drive, files in Team Drive belong to the team instead of an individual.
Even if members leave, the files stay exactly where they are so your team can continue to share information and get work done. By default, all members within Team Drives automatically see the same files regardless of who adds or reorganises them—cutting back on how many times organisations have to grant file access to trusted team members.
To get started on Team Drives use the step-by-step guide https://gsuite.google.com/learning-center/products/drive/get-started-team-drive/ ;
A "should use" for those who have G Suite accounts!

ViewedIt - Screen, Voice and Webcam Recorder for Practitioners who use Google Chrome and/or Chromebooks | technologies | Scoop.it
Video for All
John Dalziel's insight:
ViewedIt is a free Chrome extension that makes it quick and easy to create and share screencast videos.
ViewedIt could be a good screencasting tool for teachers who use Chromebooks and want to share tutorial videos with their learners.
Being able to track when learners watch their videos is an added bonus.
With the extension installed users can record their entire screen or just one window tab.
ViewedIt will let users record themselves with their webcam as well.
To record on ViewedIt users simply have to...
  - click the extension icon
  - choose what they want to record.
...when they're done recording (max time of 1 hour per video), their video is automatically stored on ViewedIt.
From ViewedIt users can share their video via email and social media.
If they choose to share via email, they will be able to track who watched their video and the percentage of the video they watched.
There is no limit to the number of videos users can record.
NOTE : To be honest, ViewedIt has the following shortcomings...
  - it doesn't let users download their videos and
  - it doesn't let users upload their videos to YouTube or other platforms.
Still worth a closer look, especially if practitioners are engaging with "Flipped Learning" and/or only have Chromebooks.

Kahoot! - Create, play and share fun learning games for any subject | technologies | Scoop.it
Kahoot! is a free game-based learning platform that makes it fun to learn – any subject, in any language, on any device, for all ages!
John Dalziel's insight:
Kahoot!...
  - is a great tool for assessments and having a game based learning element added to the learning environment.
  - can even be used for professional development.
  - offers many quizzes in the "public library" which can be duplicated and then personalised/edited.
When playing, Kahoot! in "ghost mode" it enables learners to try and beat their initial score.
Jumble, one of Kahoot!'s recent additions, has proved to be a lot of fun and beneficial for learning.
In Jumble...
  - practitioners create a question and each of the four coloured tiles becomes part of the response.
  - when the question appears on the board, the squares on the board are shown but the order is "jumbled".
  - learners must then slide the squares into the right order to either spell the word, properly form the sentence, or answer the question.
Foreign language teachers should find Jumble useful for getting learners to practice their spelling as well as for reinforcing proper word order for sentence structure in the language being taught.

Clipular - Screen capture for Chromebooks & Chrome Browser | technologies | Scoop.it
#1 Screen capture, share & collect tool for Chrome - How to take a screenshot of a region, a tab, a horizontally/vertically scrollable area as a searchable image & bookmark it? Try Clipular.
John Dalziel's insight:
Screenshots can be valuable in many learning environments, from showing learners and/or colleagues the steps for using a web app and/or capturing an image of how a webpage looks at a specific moment in time.
For learning environments that use Chromebooks or Google Chrome as a default browser, Clipular provides a free Chrome extension that can be used to capture such screen images.
Clipular lets you capture all of a user's screen or a portion of their screen.
Clipular also gives users the option to scroll while capturing to produce an image of an entire webpage even if it doesn't fit into their current screen view. e.g. if you're looking at this post on a small Chromebook right now, you might not see all of the page until you scroll down.
NOTE: Clipular does require users to create a free account and their screen capture images are stored in that account.
Within their library of screen capture images users can create groupings of images, edit their images, and share their images.
Users can, if they have one, connect Clipular to their Google Drive account and have their images saved directly to Google Drive.

Watch Frame by Frame allows you to watch YouTube and Vimeo videos frame by frame and in slow motion.
John Dalziel's insight:
Video Clips are being used more and more within teaching and learning and there are many ways to watch on-line videos.
'Watch Frame by Frame' enables users to watch YouTube or Vimeo Video Clips in slow motion and/or frame-by-frame. Viewing videos at slower than usual speed can help learners catch things they tend to miss at normal speed.
Users just need to...
  - type (or paste) in the video link from YouTube or Vimeo and
  - choose the appropriate settings.
There are four controls users can tweak.
1: Next to the frame-by-frame playback controls there is a clock which can be toggled to show the movement of frames.
2 - 4: allow users to set the steps at a set speed and frames per second.
Practitioners can share links with their learners - e.g. http://www.watchframebyframe.com/watch/yt/OGj8OneMjek - but may also wish to suggest the settings to use when viewing. NOTE: I'm sure you are aware that YouTube does already have playback speed settings hidden in plain sight.

World of Phenomena - naturally occurring events in our world, solar system and universe | technologies | Scoop.it
Facts and information about different types of natural phenomena found in the world and universe. Includes weather, geology, space and other types of phenomena.
John Dalziel's insight:
Phenomena can be broken down into various categories.
The World of Phenomena website breaks them down into six main categories: Geological, Weather, Oceanic, Electromagnetic, Space and Physical.
These categories are subjective and at times an event could be placed into another category.
The World of Phenomena website is designed to be an easy to use website for learners and anyone interested in the subject matter.
Well worth a closer look!
