Plickers - Clickers, simplified

Plickers - Clickers, simplified | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:

Plickers is inclusive in that only the practitioner needs access to a smartphone to use Plickers.
Plickers stands for “paper clickers.”
To use Plickers with their learners, Practitioners simply...
   ● download the Plickers App to their Smart device and
●print out QR code cards for learners to use to answer multiple choice questions.
Practitioners then...
   ● project questions and answer choices on the board from the Live View tab of the website,
   ● give learners a designated thinking time to problem-solve, and then...
   ● countdown to a "show cards!" moment.
Learners position their cards according to their answer, while the practitioner scans the room with their mobile device.
Live View will update with learner results in real-time, indicating which learners' responses have been captured with a checkmark next to their names.
Practitioners can also choose to reveal which answer(s) were correct with the "Show Answer" button and even review class data from the "Graph" tab.
Plickers is well worth a closer look.

John Dalziel's insight:

Typeform takes a completely fresh approach to asking questions online and puts user experience and engagement at the forefront. Optimized to look stunning on all devices (desktop and mobile), Typeform is well worth exploring as your go-to tool for...
   - polling,
   - quizzing,
   - surveying
...and engaging...
   - learners,
   - staff
   - employers or
   - any other stakeholders.
Typeform isn't a dedicated assessment platform, but it's an ideal place to put together...
   - a short quiz,
   - a test or
   - a poll.
Users can style and design their questions in hundreds of innovative and fun ways as well as embed images and video to make your test informative as well as evaluative.
NOTE: With a Typeform account users can review the results of every form they've created in the application, and they can also have Typeform pass results into a Google Spreadsheet.
This offers a lot more portability of data for...

If practitioners are comfortable with their learners using their email to signup to Typeform, the tool can be of great value in many different areas of study.
Typeform can be used for research to poll or survey opinions and feedback. While it is easy to deliver forms digitally using social media or email, one more interactive way is to take advantage of the mobile interface and have students poll attendees in person using devices at events or in public.

Save As Doc - Google Sheets add-on

Save As Doc - Google Sheets add-on | technologies | Scoop.it
Convert any Google Sheets spreadsheet into a Google Document for improved legibility of lengthy cell text entries.
John Dalziel's insight:

If practitioners use Google Forms to create and deliver quizzes/assessments to learners (and if not why not?) the only real problem we face is when we add-in short answer or essay questions.

The responses spreadsheet, if we're honest, becomes unwieldy and difficult to read.
Save As Doc, a free Google Spreadsheets Add-on, can solve that problem!
It allows users to select the cells containing learners' short answer/essay responses and turns them into a document that will appear in their Google Drive dashboard (it might take a minute or two to appear if users have selected a large set of cells); practitioners can then easily view, edit, read, download as a pdf, grade and/or, if they have to, print the resulting document.

Another must have tool for making life easier!

Plickers - Transforming Student Assessment and Data Collection

Plickers - Transforming Student Assessment and Data Collection | technologies | Scoop.it
Affordable clickers for classrooms. Plickers transforms how teachers assess their students and collect data
John Dalziel's insight:

Plickers is a Student Response System for Learning Environmentss that aren't 1:1
Plickers uses a practitioner's iPad or Android tablet in conjunction with a series of QR codes to create a learner response system.
   - Learners are given a set of QR codes on large index cards.
   - The codes are assigned to learners.
   - Each code card can be turned in four orientations.
   - Each orientation provides a different answer.
   - When the practitioner is ready to collect data, he or she uses the Plickers mobile app to scan the cards to see a bar graph of responses.
Plickers could be a good Learner response system to use in learning environments in which learners don't have laptops or tablets to use.
Using Plickers to poll learners instead of asking them to raise hands to indicate if they "get it" or not allows learners to reply anonymously by holding up their cards.

Have all learners hold up their cards at the same time, scan them, and see the results.

Students won't know who said they "got it" or not because each code is unique to each student.

Turnitin - Teaching Tools

Turnitin - Teaching Tools | technologies | Scoop.it
Turnitin is the leading academic plagiarism detector, utilized by teachers and students to avoid plagiarism and ensure academic integrity.
John Dalziel's insight:

30 percent of papers graded in Turnitin in 2013, were graded using rubrics.
Teaching Tools provides a way for practitioners to both share the rubrics and lesson plans they've developed and gather valuable materials to apply in their own learning environments.
Plus, with the launch of our Grade Anything functionality, practitioners are now able to evaluate learner work across the curriculum for any type of assignments—presentations, science, maths and more.
The repository of sample rubrics and assignments offers a practical resource for practitioners looking for ideas, and who don't want to waste time reinventing pedagogical wheels.
All the items submitted are published under a Creative Commons license, which allows others to use, copy, distribute, and adapt.

The Answer Pad | The Graphically-Based Student Response and Assessment System

The Answer Pad | The Graphically-Based Student Response and Assessment System | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:

You don't have to change the way you teach, alter the curriculum, or jump through hoops to use technology.
The Answer Pad enables practitioners to simply ask questions, as they're teaching, and the learners reply just as they always do; the only difference is learners use their iPads or a browser.
Using iPads, with Pre-Created Templates - saves time so practitioners can focus on the content -
Practitioners can quickly change the templates for learners to submit responses; with one click!
As each student clicks "submit," their answers automatically begin to appear on the Practitioner's Dashboard so now, at quick glance, practitioners can privately assess their learner's understanding.
With The Answer Pad's free app, TapIt Free, their learners are able to answer questions using templates pushed out to their iPads.
To get started, you need to know two things.
Practitioners use The Answer Pad from their computer OR the Internet (Safari) on their iPads.
Learners use The Answer Pad from the TapIt Free app or a web browser.

Quizizz: Fun Multiplayer Learning Environment Quizzes

Quizizz: Fun Multiplayer Learning Environment Quizzes | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:
Quizizz is an quick and easy tool to create quizzes that learners can take part in during classes and/or at home. Learners are given the same questions but just in a different order.
Depending on whether they get questions right or wrong, they get feedback in the form of different memes (A humorous image with a caption).
Similar to Kahoot!, this quizzing tool allows practitioners to quickly check understanding around a subject.
By either searching the bank of already existing quizzes or creating their own quiz, Quizizz allows learners to quickly immerse themselves in formative assessment.
The feedback being in the form of memes brings interest to the quiz by using a popular form of media that learners will immediately recognise.
Lastly, the reporting that is built in to Quizizz is perfect for allowing practitioners to see where in the questions learners were having issues, allowing them to tailor their teaching to address this.

Zaption - Interact With Video

Zaption - Interact With Video | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:

Zaption is a tool for creating video-based quizzes.
Zaption allows practitioners to display questions for learners to answer as they watch a video.
To create a quiz on Zaption users start by creating a "tour" in their account.
A tour is a combination of videos, images, and text arranged into a sequence.
After choosing a video, just start watching it then pause it when you want to add a question.
You can add questions in the form of...
   - multiple choice,
   - open response, or
   - check box response.
When learners watch the video they will see your questions appear in the context in which you set them.
As I've said, Zaption tours can include images and passages of text along with your video.
Users can add questions over images and or between images and text.
Just take a look at the Zaption showcase for some great examples of Zaption tours that incorporate video, images, and text.
Zaption could be a great tool for creating flipped lessons to share with learners.
NOTE: learners do not have to have Zaption accounts in order to use the tours that you create; the free version of the service allows users to include one video per tour (they can have unlimited tours).
