Ratatype: - Typing test. Take free on-line typing speed test and get a certificate  | technologies | Scoop.it
Test your typing speed online, find out how fast can you type with Ratatype WPM typing test and get online typing certificate
John Dalziel's insight:
Touch typing is, without a doubt, an important skill; sadly overlooked by many learning providers.
Practitioners in Further, Adult & Community Education and Skills (#FACEandS) and/or Higher Education, often will not accept hand written assignments.
This because typed pages are much easier for them to read, edit and auto-mark.
Even an entry level job at the local Supermarket or fast food place will require at least some rudimentary typing skills so employees can swiftly and accurately enter customer or order information.
The first step toward learning how to properly touch type is to learn where your typing skills currently stand.
The easiest way to do that is to take an on-line typing test, like this one.
It provides them with three numbers...
 ● a gross typing speed,
 ● an accuracy percentage, and
 ● an adjusted typing speed.
Beginners can usually manage about 35 words per minute, and practiced typists have been clocked at more than 100 wpm.
The world record for typing on a QWERTY formatted keyboard is 216 words per minute.
Ratatype allows users...
 ● to test themselves, and
 ● learn how to touch type

One of the nice things about AlfaTyping is that practitioners are able to create their own lessons using text that relates to topics learners are already studying.
That means when learners are reading the text on the screen and typing it, they are getting increased exposure to key vocabulary terms from other topics they're studying.
If practitioners don't have time to create their own lessons, they can use the pre-made lessons offered by AlfaTyping.
Regardless of whether they create their own lessons or use the pre-made lessons, they can track their learners' progress in AlfaTyping.
