Remind | Remind101 is now Remind

Remind | Remind101 is now Remind | technologies |
Remind (formerly Remind101) is a safe, free way for teachers to text message students and keep in touch with parents.
John Dalziel's insight:

Need to remind learners of assignments and exams?
Want to make learning environments more interactive?
Try Remind – this application has been a round for a while, but recently it added a few features like ‘Chat’ which make it a very robust tool.
Practitioners can create an account with their Google Account for free. Then they can either post the QR code or the "Class Code" (both provided by Remind) and learners, employers or any other stakeholders, with the code, can sign up.
Practitioners can then send SMS, emails or chat with their users.
Added to this they can attach documents or pdfs to share with their learners.
Ideal for on-line courses, this is the simplest tool I have seen that can make a huge impact!

Free Broken Link Checker / Online URL Validator - finds dead / bad weblinks

Free Broken Link Checker / Online URL Validator - finds dead / bad weblinks | technologies |
Free Broken Link Checker / Online HTML Validator - find dead hyperlinks
John Dalziel's insight:

A "must take a closer look" for web designers and learning providers.
Because Dead hyperlinks on websites are not just annoying – their existence may cause some real damage to your reputation on the Internet!
As a result, learning providers, and/or others, may:
   - Lose some of the user base (current users sooner or later will get frustrated enough to never come back)
   - Get problems with getting new learners/clients (because of the dead weblinks people simply won't be finding things/pages they are looking for).
   - Damage your reputation online (most of online customers consider stale hyperlinks as demonstration of no respect to them from the web presence's owners)
   - Have negative impact on your website's ratings with major Search Engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing etc

John Dalziel's insight:

A super-detailed map of the ocean floor’s topography based on satellite measurements of subtle lumps on the ocean’s surface. These lumps of water, which are subtle, low, and wide on the ocean’s surface, are caused by the gravitational pull of underwater features like mountains and ridges. The team of scientists have wrapped their data around a Google Earth globe, so practitioners, and/or learners, can explore it themselves.

Awareness | technologies |
John Dalziel's insight:

Awareness is a ‘personal assistant’ that helps both practitioners and their learners to be aware of the time they spent on the computer.
Are we all aware that...
   - computers, smartphones and tablets now play an essential part in our daily lives;
   - watching a screen for long hours, we might suffer some ill effects such as eye-strain, blur vision and headache and
   - over-staring at a screen can even cause users to experience sleep disorders?
By using Awareness, an on-line app that can help reduce digital eye fatigue and strain, every continuous hour practitioners and their learners spent on computer, will trigger the software to play a Tibetan singing bowl.
In addition to that, Awareness will also show the amount of time being spent on the computer, without a break, in the menu bar.
Note: the software will never force users to stop using the computer.
Awareness is available for both Windows and OS X
