SusTEACH Planning Tool | technologies | Scoop.it

This SusTEACH Toolkit resource for lecturers and senior managers in Higher Education will be refined and developed further during the next few months.

The Toolkit includes a number or resources as well as the following tools:

- The SusTEACH Planning Tool – an online tool which helps lecturers and academic designers to rate their teaching delivery plan and produces personalised feedback on the likely environmental impacts associated with this plan.

Google Green Scrapbook

Google Green Scrapbook | technologies | Scoop.it
On 19th December 2011, Google revealed a neat way to look at the year in search.

Using Google Green users can build a "green search scrapbook."

The scrapbook highlights the most-searched environmentally themed searches. Users can build their own scrapbook by responding to seven prompts.

When users make a selection they will learn a little bit of information about that topic.

Creating Google Green Scrapbooks could be an ideal way for learners to start exploring and researching topics in environmental science.

For example learners could create scrapbooks, post links to them on a course blog, wiki, or Wallwisher for everyone to see and explore.

Verifiable signatures online

Verifiable signatures online | technologies | Scoop.it
I don't claim to be an expert in the "Work-based Learning" (WBL) Sector but I do know that electronic signatures from Learners, Assessors, Employers and Verifiers are often the centre of quite heated discussions.

As with most technologies, it is important to identify...
* the current practice you would like to enhance and/or
* the things you would like to do but currently can't.

When this is clear, it is the time to look at potential solutions; that way you can ensure any new technologies adopted will meet your requirements.

From listening to the arguments discussions the benefits looked for are...
* To give and get verifiable signatures online; providing the ability to sign on a browser, smart-phone or tablet etc.

* To provide an audit trail for any "WBL Records"; improving accountability.

* Save time & money

* Sustainable; save paper, ink, fuel, and is affordable.

* Secure; and

* Legal; signatures are valid and binding (Here in the UK, see the 2004 Electronics Act)

Take a look at the two potential solutions, that I've looked at, which address the benefits listed above

Data Visualization: How much have we polluted?

Data Visualization: How much have we polluted? | technologies | Scoop.it
ElkanoData offers you a tool to visualize the environmental footprint generated by each country. Explore, analyze, compare and reflect.
John Dalziel's insight:

This is an eye-opening map which shows the extent to which we have polluted the earth from 1960 to 2008.
Simply choose two countries you want to compare, pollution-wise, and choose the date you want to look at (from 1960 to 2008). You will then be presented with information showing how much those countries have polluted.
This has so many uses in so many subject areas.

Engineering for Change

Engineering for Change | technologies | Scoop.it
Engineering for Change connects a growing community of engineers, technologists, social scientists, NGOs, local governments and community advocates, who are dedicated to improving the quality of life all over the world.
John Dalziel's insight:

There are a wealth of initiatives in underserved communities throughout the world focused on increasing access to...

food and clean water, effective sanitation, energy, housing andother basic needs.

Often, technologies intended for these communities fail due to lack of communication and access to information. As a result, there’s a growing need for a centralized collaboration hub where knowledge and experience can be captured, shared and leveraged.

E4C Mission Engineering for Change (E4C) is a growing community of engineers, technologists, social scientists, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and local community advocates who are passionate about improving quality of life. E4C seeks to enable this growing community to design, apply and share appropriate and sustainable technical solutions to achieve transformational results for humanitarian and global development challenges.

I wonder if this might be used for assessor/trainers to 'capture' competency in some NVQ activities in the way we suggest that Vodburner captures the whole thing but only when using Skype.
I will let you know. Very useful tool anyway
