Science in the Classroom

Science in the Classroom | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:
Science in the Classroom is a free resource for practitioners from Science Magazine.
On the Science in the Classroom website, users will find research papers containing interactive annotations to help learners understand the content of the papers.
In the right hand margin of each paper they will find a section called "learning lens."
Learning lens offers seven types of interactive annotations that learners can enable.
Of those seven types of annotations, the glossary annotation is the one that learners will probably use most often.
The glossary annotations highlight key words and terms in the article.
Clicking on a highlighted annotation reveals a definition.
In addition to the interactive annotations, Science in the Classroom provides practitioners with...
► discussion and reading comprehension questions and
► a list of suggested learning activities.

Royal Society of Chemistry | Advancing excellence in the chemical sciences | technologies | Scoop.it
A worldwide network of members and an international publishing business. Join the RSC to help advance the chemical sciences.
John Dalziel's insight:

This RSC (not the one I work for) is the largest non-government supporter of chemistry education in the UK. Their activities encompass formal and informal education from the cradle to the grave and are grouped into three key areas:
   - Schools and colleges
   - Higher Education (HE)
   - Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
They support the teaching of chemistry within the post-16 phases and their resources and materials are sent free to colleges in the UK and Ireland.
They also encourage initiatives to attract learners to the chemical sciences from all parts of society and raise awareness of potential careers. An advisory service and a variety of careers publications for learners and practitioners are available.
Note: Education in Chemistry is their bimonthly magazine produced for practitioners that includes a pupil supplement aimed at 14 - 18 year olds. This is also sent free to colleges and universities throughout the UK and Ireland.

Alfio Gangemi's curator insight, April 29, 2015 9:42 PM

This looks to be a fantastic resource for chemistry teachers. It has ideas for experiments and tools for calculation converters as well as teaching and tutoring help links. I believe this would help the teacher create more time to plan as because it seems to contain quite thorough and detailed information there is the potential that the teach would not have to look any further.
