Spoken™ - Where the world finds a voice.

Spoken™ - Where the world finds a voice. | technologies | Scoop.it
Where the world finds a voice.
John Dalziel's insight:

Before I say too much about Spoken, at the time of writing this, it is currently in beta.
Currently potential users will need to request an invite to use the service. My invitation arrived within seconds.
In short, Spoken is a new social network that is designed for sharing audio recordings of four minutes or less, describing itself as "Instagram for audio."
Once registered, users can...
upload audio recordings that are up to four minutes long; and
attach cover images to those recordings.
...all of their recordings will appear in their profile where people can follow them and users can follow others.
Spoken doesn't have a built-in recording tool so users have to record outside of Spoken then upload their recording.
I'll be using Audacity to make the recordings that I'll upload to Spoken.
Spoken could provide a good way for practitioners to encourage learners to post audio recordings in which they reflect on learning experiences and or share advice with other learners. At the same time learners will gain confidence with, and enhance, their spoken communication skills.
Practitioners, will have to follow each of their learners to hear their recordings.

Classmill - Create classes with links, videos, images & files.

Classmill - Create classes with links, videos, images & files. | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:

Classmill could be a good platform...
   - through which learning providers build self-paced professional development courses for their staff and/or
   - for building on-line teaching courses.
Practitioners can create public or private (invitation-only) courses; the courses built as a series of modules.
If they make their course private they will have to email invitations to their learners.
Practitioners will find an abundance of learning tools to use to create their classes such as...
   - links,
   - videos,
   - images,
   - files,
...and more.
Practitioners can also embed games and interactive simulations into each module.
A discussion forum is automatically added to each module within a course.
Best of all practitioners can monitor and track learner progress while differentiating instruction.

It's also nice place for learners to find and register for on-line classes for free.

reveal.js - The HTML Presentation Framework

reveal.js - The HTML Presentation Framework | technologies | Scoop.it
A framework for easily creating beautiful presentations using HTML
John Dalziel's insight:

Reveal.js and, its online editor companion, Slides.com, are perfect for those who like their presentation tools free, open-source, and either hosted on the web or hosted on their own GitHub repository.
Reveal.js is framework that lets users build robust slide decks and presentations using HTML or Markdown, right in their browser, so they don't have to download anything. (Ideal for Chromebooks)
The builder is robust and well put together, not to mention simple and easy to use.
It may seem like a developer's dream presentation tool, but you don't have to be one to make the most of it, or the online editor. It's easy to create...
   - animations,
   - transitions, and
   - graphs and charts
Reveal.js makes it easy to...
   - check out presentations on the go, on any device, or
   - embed presentations in a blog or web site so people can see them when they visit.
Similarly, users can just send a link out to people to view their presentation, or save a PDF of your entire slideshow so pass around that way.
There are also a many advanced features available too - users can
   - create presentations and keep them private,
   - present their deck offline,
   - control their presentation from a mobile device,
   - sync their work to Dropbox if they choose,
...and more.

You can take a look at the full list of features, most of which are free, at...
http://slides.com/features ;

Office Mix - PowerPoint add-in

Office Mix - PowerPoint add-in | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:

Office Mix is a new offering for practitioners, from Microsoft, which turns their PowerPoints into interactive presentations.

NOTE: Mix works with the 2013 version of PowerPoint by adding a tab with a number of tools to the interface.
Using Mix, a microphone and webcam, users can record themself narrating the slides and have this play along with their presentation.
They can also record screencasts and embed them into their slideshow.
Users can include interactive quizzes and polls, and they can receive feedback on how each of their learners performed on these.
Office Mix is very intuitive to use.
Mixes can be shared online and viewed on multiple devices.
It’s a great tool for blended learning activities.

Presentain - Present. Engage. Grow.

Presentain - Present. Engage. Grow. | technologies | Scoop.it
Presentain helps speakers engage and grow their audiences. You use smartphone as a clicker and audience can connect to your presentation using their devices. They can ask you questions, participate in polls, send you follow-up requests, share your slides and more. While you present Presentain records your voice so when the presentation is over you can publish the slidecast (presentation slides with voice-over) and start growing your online audience.
John Dalziel's insight:

The most exciting part of Presentain is its interactivity.
Viewers are given a pin to log in to the presentation on their device allowing them to interact.
They can view the slides on their device as you present them, and share any they like on their social networks.
They can also submit questions which users will see as a notification on their smartphone.
Users, practitioners or learners can create polls and multiple choice questions, viewing the responses in real time.
They can use their smart phone as a clicker, record the live presentation and share it later, and their audience can use Presentain to request a follow up action, such as to request a copy of the slides.
Drawbacks? Users currently can’t show embedded video in the presentations, and they can’t include animations or transitions. Presentation is compatible with either Google Slides or other slides converted to PDFs.

Speaker Deck

Speaker Deck | technologies | Scoop.it
Speaker Deck is the best way to share presentations online. Simply upload your slides as a PDF, and we’ll turn them into a beautiful online experience. View them on SpeakerDeck.com, or share them on any website with an embed code.
John Dalziel's insight:

Users simply upload their slides as PDF and Speaker Deck turns them into a beautiful online experience.
Users can then share their generated presentation with others using different options including...
   • a unique URL link,
   • social media websites such a Facebook and/or Twitter, or
   • use the embed code to embed presentations in their webpresence.
NOTE:

1: Speaker Deck only supports PDF files and allows up to 50 uploads per day and a total of 500 all time.
2: The PDF that users upload cannot be larger than 50 Megabytes

To upload a presentation to Speaker Deck users...
   • Sign into their Speaker Deck account and click "Upload" at the top of the page. They will be presented with a form to upload a PDF.
   • Click the "Select a PDF to Upload" button and a file browser will open. Select the PDF you want to upload and then click Ok.
   • When the PDF has finished uploading they will see a "Save the Details" button. Optionally enter a name and description and select a category for the presentation and then click "Save the Details"

It's as easy as that.
