360° Aerial Panorama, 3D Virtual Tours Around the World, Photos of the Most Interesting Places on the Earth | technologies | Scoop.it
AirPano is a not-for-profit project focused on high-resolution virtual tours from a bird’s eye view. Being the largest resource for 360° aerial panoramas in the world – by geographical coverage, number of aerial photographs, and artistic and technical quality of the images, AirPano has already photographed over 300 most interesting locations on our planet. There are more than 3000 spherical panoramas on our website at the moment.
John Dalziel's insight:

The free website airpano.com contains hundreds of beautiful 3 dimensional virtual tours of beautiful locations all over the world.
The airpano website interacts with a tablet and the gyroscope built into the tablet to enable users to move around and visit these places, virtually.
As users pan theirr device around, so the image moves with them, in stunning high definition.
There are AirPano apps, not free, available both for Android and iOS which users can download from the respective App stores.
Unlike conventional photographs, spherical 360° photo panoramas allow users to rotate an image, change the field of view, and zoom in on a particular detail.

So Google is determined to bring field trips to learners, online via Hangouts.
Practitioners can sign up their class for upcoming “virtual trips” and many big organisations, such as zoos, have already signed up to offer “trips”.
