Google Tone

Google Tone | technologies | Scoop.it
Broadcast any URL to computers within earshot.
John Dalziel's insight:

Early Days as yet but, Google has launched a new experimental Chrome extension that lets users (e.g.practitioners) transmit the URL of a website to other nearby computers (Used within the learning environment) using nothing but sound.
To try the feature...
   - all computers must first have the Google Tone Chrome extension installed and
   - all computers must be within reasonable earshot of each other.
Then when the practitioner is on a webpage they’d like to share...
   - they hit the little Google Tone tab in their browser and they’ll hear a little succession of beeps — not too dissimilar to an old ZX Spectrum computer loading a game.
   - nearby machines receive a notification with the sender’s Google profile and picture embedded within the message, and
   - the learners can open the URL on their own PC.

John Dalziel's insight:

If learners are watching an educational video on YouTube, for a flipped learning environment task perhaps, there will times when they need to leave their computer to do something else.

In steps Video Resumer.

Split Screen

Split Screen | technologies | Scoop.it

Another add-on for Google Chrome that can facilitate learning!

Research is integral to many learning activities, and this Chrome browser extension is a powerful research tool.

Split Screen splits the browser into multiple re-sizable windows.

By default there are two windows...

- the window on the left opening as a simple notepad for taking notes; and

- whatever website users choose to open on the right side of the screen.

Alternatively, Split Screen can be set so that only web sites open, perhaps to make comparisons or to research from multiple sources.

Splitting the screen horizontally, this is also an option. A single verticle window may even be split horizontally.

Options can be selected and set in the normal way, via a right-click on the icon and selecting “Options”.

Another excellent reason for using Google Chrome!
