The Answer Pad | The Graphically-Based Student Response and Assessment System

The Answer Pad | The Graphically-Based Student Response and Assessment System | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:

You don't have to change the way you teach, alter the curriculum, or jump through hoops to use technology.
The Answer Pad enables practitioners to simply ask questions, as they're teaching, and the learners reply just as they always do; the only difference is learners use their iPads or a browser.
Using iPads, with Pre-Created Templates - saves time so practitioners can focus on the content -
Practitioners can quickly change the templates for learners to submit responses; with one click!
As each student clicks "submit," their answers automatically begin to appear on the Practitioner's Dashboard so now, at quick glance, practitioners can privately assess their learner's understanding.
With The Answer Pad's free app, TapIt Free, their learners are able to answer questions using templates pushed out to their iPads.
To get started, you need to know two things.
Practitioners use The Answer Pad from their computer OR the Internet (Safari) on their iPads.
Learners use The Answer Pad from the TapIt Free app or a web browser.

Google Tone

Google Tone | technologies | Scoop.it
Broadcast any URL to computers within earshot.
John Dalziel's insight:

Early Days as yet but, Google has launched a new experimental Chrome extension that lets users (e.g.practitioners) transmit the URL of a website to other nearby computers (Used within the learning environment) using nothing but sound.
To try the feature...
   - all computers must first have the Google Tone Chrome extension installed and
   - all computers must be within reasonable earshot of each other.
Then when the practitioner is on a webpage they’d like to share...
   - they hit the little Google Tone tab in their browser and they’ll hear a little succession of beeps — not too dissimilar to an old ZX Spectrum computer loading a game.
   - nearby machines receive a notification with the sender’s Google profile and picture embedded within the message, and
   - the learners can open the URL on their own PC.

Free audience polling add-in for PowerPoint that uses audience members' mobile devices for voting and displays results live in your slides.
John Dalziel's insight:

ParticiPoll is a free audience polling plugin for PowerPoint that allows polls to be run quickly and with no need for additional clickers to be used.
Learners can vote via any internet-enabled device.
Signing up with ParticiPoll is free for basic features.
Once logged in, download the free plugin for PowerPoint.
Once the free plugin has been installed, you will see this new toolbar within PowerPoint.
This toolbar lets you start and stop polling sessions. The Insert Poll button will insert a polling widget onto the current slide. You can also insert a QR code that will direct users to the correct poll page.
It works best for quick polls where users want to ask for audience opinions, or to get a feel for overall understanding. ParticiPoll isn't a proper assessment tool where you can see who answered what (but it could be used 1-to-1).
The basic ParticiPoll is free to use, and gives you access to unlimited live polls and votes.
A pro version for £2.99 a month (or £29.99 a year) allows users to view any audience comments and to access past poll data.
I found the ParticiPoll plugin very quick and easy to use.
ParticiPoll is ideal for BYOD learning environments where learners have a mix of devices.
